Default Suggestions for an aggressive sounding cam

I have seen where people are making pretty good power off of just a cam, OTRCAI, and exhaust.

I had another GTO pull up next to me the other day and it made me jealous. The cam just made that thing sound mean as hell.

I want a cam that just sounds nasty and lopes and maybe even shakes the car around at idle. Im guessing I will be giving up some power over other cams. I am willing to give up a little power just to sound like that old classic street rod.

Don't get me wrong, I still want to make decent power. If I could make over 400-420 to the wheels with just exhaust, a mean cam, and a CAI I would totally be happy with my manual car.

I sent an email to thunder racing and got a response asking for more details but have not heard sense my reply.

Any suggestions?

Lope is as much in the tune as it is the cam profile so you don't have to sacrifice performance for sound. Just something to think about

I wish you luck, ive been looking for the same thing but i end up with more and more supporting mods than i can afford lol

example: i love TSP's 228R .588/.588 cam 112 LSA.. but from what im finding id need headers and (for me being an automatic) a 3000-3200 stall..

guess it kinda depends how much u plan on spending...

I don't quite follow. I mean you can lower the idle and kind of help with the lope but I am not seeing how else to tune for lope.

When I was talking about exhaust I was including the addition of headers and high flow cats to add to my Corsa Catback system.

Fueling and spark play a part as well. My little 114 lsa cam sounds like a dragster at idle and way bigger than actually is

^ he's right. I can tune in a poor idle and get the car shaking all over the place. I tuned it to run as best as it could. Honestly modding your car for power will give you all the aggression you need.

Don't buy a cam for sound. You should buy a cam based on your goals for the car. Pretty much anything from a 224/224 with a 112 lsa on up is going to sound mean.

You should get LTs first, before your add a cam. Next, remember that any cam swap must include upgrading your valvetrain; springs, pushrods, etc. Don't skimp on this step or your may be paying to repair damage you could have avoided. Next, find a cam that is right for how you drive your Goat. I can recommend 30 cams that will shake the windows out of houses 30 yards away but will cause your GTO to drive like crap. Picking a cam based on sound is right down there with picking a cam by internet vote, both terrible ideas. Call some reputable vendors and tell them what you are looking for. The reason they may ask you allot of questions is because they are trying to do it right, that is find the cam that is right for you.

I have had at least 3 of Ed Curtis's Cams (FTI) in my mustang with the different setups. I sent him an email tonight to see what he thinks or suggests. I kind of forgot that he wasn't limited to ford.

I'm running the TrickFlow 228/230 .585/.585 112 LSA cam. It sounds extremely mean through my Corsa exhaust and LTs with cats.

But, I agree, don't buy a cam for sound. You can get a cam built for your goals that will sound nasty too.

LG's G5X3 on a 114 LSA, hands down. End of story.

For good power and streetability at least. Just my opinion though, had 13 lsx cars and you can't beat that cam!

Don't buy a cam just for sound. There are plenty of cams that will perform and sound nasty as well

this video seems to be working. Here is a short clip of my cam/exhaust I am happy with the performance and sound. I ended up going with an FTI Cam.

Adam what works well in an LS2, and also sounds as mean as hell, is Comp Cam 235 243 .621" .624" 113.
