Default 04-05/06 Diff Differences

So, I just want to be sure my understanding is correct. The 05/06 diffs are interchangeable with the 04 with the exception that the driveshaft doesn't bolt up: You need the same year driveshaft or a custom one to go with the diff.

Is this correct?

That's pretty much it. The bolt pattern size for the diff pinion is different. You can also swap on the correct pinion flange ("propeller") for whatever year or if you use a one piece drive shaft most of those use an adapter plate that works with either or a different pinion flange.

That's what I was planning on doing, getting a single piece DS and swapping them both at the same time. I'll just make sure it has both bolt patterns and not worry about swapping flanges. Thanks.

I have a spare adapter plate. At one time I was thinking of having a shaft made locally and using it. If you have a local driveline shop you could get something build cheaper than a "kit".

Yea lol, trying to be the fastest bolt-on M6 GTO. The shock absorption and reduced rotating mass seem worth it to me.

Record is 11.95 @112 for M6
http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=205352

Well If I go for the record I'm pulling the passenger and rear seats because that's 100lbs right there, but I'm not ever stripping it out. It just has basic weight reduction and is at 3550ish right now, although that was before headers, twin disk, and wing delete.

Underdrive pulley, NW 102TB, and a 100mm MAF will complete the power mods and then it's all up to rotating mass and traction. Maybe I'll get some 1.8 or 1.85 rockers.

Damn. I might throw my stock cam back in and shoot for it. I went 12.05 @ 113.5 (full weight besides prostars) in 2000DA

To get the record it would be easier to get to ATCO or somewhere with a great DA. Also most of the difference in a great ET is a great 60'. I don't think the drive shaft is going to be great bang for the buck for that.
