So since you didn't answer this, everyone is just going to guess at the problem.
BUT, if you have an 04, your gauge cluster is most likely messed up. It happens to all 04s and it's just something to live with. It'll happen again if you replace it too.
I have it happen every so often. Along with the temp gauge that thinks the engine is over heating, after 2 min of starting the car.

I think it is normal and happens, I just filled my tank up though and needle shot back up. It was a mistake on my part I run the car low on fuel.
