Tires to hook up for 06 GTO

Best tire for the money for a stock GTO is - wait for the **** storm - Cooper RS3S. $109 each (245/45/17) and traction damn near equal to the very best tires on the market. only drawback is your dad will not be able to burn out much any more as they are too sticky. And they like to hydroplane in standing water, very disconcerting considering my sons stock GTO can go roll into WOT in FIRST AND SECOND GEAR without spinning them on wet pavement.
Dunlop Direzza ZII next best. $180 each (255/40/17): drag radial grip without any of the drawbacks. These are Max Performance Summer Only tires, highest level you can get. The worst I've ever done against another car wearing slicks/Mickeys/Hoosiers/every type of drag radial you can imagine is that a couple of them almost tied me. And that guy was running 345 series drag radial steam rollers. I did have one guy match me on the launch come to think of it: he had Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs on his car, which are the precursors to the ZII.
Had RE11 tires, they worked good but not as good as Star Specs.
Had (and still do on my front rims) Nitto 555R tires. No comparison, they lock up first, slide in the corners first, and only redeeming value is they are good in the rain. Not great, but good in the rain.
Stock KD2 tires: suck bad, nothing but spin city even when bone stock. Horrible tire for GM to choose to put on a 400hp/400tq sporty coupe.

Just got my car back from a h/c install...dynoed mid 4s hp, low 4s tq. Wringing out the car in 2nd and 3rd I get 0 tire slippage. Agressive 1-2 shifts and high rpm 1st gear runs result in clutch slippage (still have stock clutch) rather than wheel spin currently. Best tires I have run on this car so far and only ones I will buy when I need new ones. Current size is 245/40/17.

I hear the 555r's are great. Perfect thread for me to be reading because I soon will be needing stickier tires as well. I'm glad to hear everybody over here on this site also recommend the 555r's
