does this look like a good deal?
I found a 2004 gto with 105k miles. Auto trans, black exterior, red interior. Everything is stock. It is at a dealer listed for $10500. I have a relationship with the dealer and may be able to get the price down some.
If i get the gto it will be a daily driver (except for snow). What issues can i expect to see with it, i read about the wiring harness behind the glove box, what else would need immediate attention? It looks like it was maintained and is in good condition.
Also are these cars now at a "collector" status, to the point where dealers and private sellers are listing them several thousand over kbb price? I found a few others i was interested in but they are $4-5k over kbb, i emailed the dealers asking about their price and was told to pound sand. I like the cars but not to the point of spending thousands over what they are worth

OP that sounds a spec high for 100k. Not TOTALLY out of the ballpark but you can probably do a bit better.
I would check the for sale section on this forum, search for GTO and also check out the LS1GTO.com (it's the same as LS2GTO.com/LS7GTO.com etc they all go to the same site). Check the forums cars for sale section and look back over the entire past year or so to get a ballpark idea of what you can get.
Remember the 2004 comes with LS1 and not the LS2, so you have 350hp vs 400hp, not a huge deal but 2004 is the least desireable of the 3 years these cars were made.
2005-2006 also got upgraded brakes and there are a few other minor differences.
I wouldn't say the GTO is 'collector' status yet. the 2004's are only 10 years old (my 2005 is 9). It's cool because you don't see a ton on the road, although i don't think most folks are willing to pay a premium for one. Maybe if it's got under 5,000 miles or something and in pristine condition.
Best of luck to you!

Also dealers who aren't willing to budge on price are not a huge deal. Some places are just ******** and don't like to sell cars. I've always been able to get a dealer to come down at least $1000-$1500 on any used car they were selling.
If you are a young guy/gal they are probably just playing the old game of 'it's a cool car with a fast V8, they will bite' if you give them a bottom line and are willing to walk then the worst that happens is they dont sell the car to you. There are plenty of others out there that may have been sitting on a lot for awhile.
Also if you see a ford dealer with a pontiac for sale, they are usually itching to get rid of it off their lot.

Ever seen a Cosmos Purple Metallic with purple leather interior or Barbados Blue Metallic 05/06 GTO? Nope, they only made those colors in 04, they are the rarest and most desirable of the 3 years.
Point is, desirable is not constituted purely by color and rarity, it's a matter of choice. I for one do not "desire" a purple on purple 350hp LS1 GTO.
It also takes into account the performance and other options. Most people looking at a performance car would most definitely "desire" power and displacement over color.

Nope, they only made those colors in 04, they are the rarest and most desirable of the 3 years. 50 hp is a drivers race and all 3 years brakes sucked for the most part. The 05/06's did get a better looking hood and rear bumper cover with split dual exhaust though. I am a little biased too, I have the purple 04.
there is a reason rare colors are rare....it's because no one wanted them with those colors. if no one wanted them new that color...then it stands to reason no one would want one used with that color now

it's silly really...especially considering searches thru craigslist shows morons trying to sell cars with rebuilt titles for 13k+.
