I'll be running 9.5" wide wheels on the rear of our GTO with a 275 width.
so IMO... yes you could probably run an 8" wheel but if there are plenty of decently priced options out there wider... with the offset you need then why buy a smaller rim? I'd run the widest tire and rim combo you can.

honestly everyone makes slicks for a 15x8 wheel. All different size tires out there that will fit on many different size wheels. I have a set of 15x8 cragar soft 8s on the rear of my 2004 silverado win Mickey Thompson ET streets on them size 275/60/15. They hook well and look fine. Reason why I run 8" wheel is not many companies make a decent price rim over 8" that will still tuck on my truck.

Yea you need 120 right? Just keep looking and don't be afraid of craigslist as long as you do your research first.

The 8" rim isn't the problem. If anything it's the IRS. I'm working on getting in the 1.4s with an IRS. Not impossible but it will take work.
Wish I had an SRA for 1.2s but I'll work with what I got for now.
