Default Radio Disapointment

Is it just me or is the stereo in the GTO the worst thing you have ever heard. I am wondering if there is actually something wrong with mine. Can't turn it up load enough while driving with the windows down to hear it without it distorting. Is anyone else having the same issues. Everything else in the car is awsome.

I agree.. for 10 speakers and 200 Watts they sound TERRIBLE... wish they put Delco's or Bose' in them.

No, Its not you, I think the sound quality sucks once above 2-4 dashs. Sounds like Jensen speakers. Speakers got to go

Just wanting to know if upgrading the speakers would make it any better?

Someone on ls1gto.com replaced all their speakers and added an amp, you might want to search there and see how that went.

My 500 Watt 10 speaker Monsoon sounds pretty good for a factory stereo.

Aren't the GTO stereos made by Blaupunkt?

stock stereos are usually not the best but since when did they put the audiovox radios in pontiacs. I thought those were included in the in the saturns.

At least a few people have said upgrading the craptastic speakers makes a world of difference. Some also suggest adjusting the gain on the subwoofer amp which is located somewhere behind trim in the trunk. The factory speakers are pretty much junk. At least a few brands of higher end speaker will drop right in without much work and would clearly sound a lot better. Low volume distortion is usualy poor speakers or to little power, in this case i'm thinking it is the speakers at fault.

Adjust the gain you say. I may have to look into that.
