Dodge Omni Whooped Me !
Something Mind Baffling happened to me this morning... Going to work I was entering the Highway entrance ramp and next to me was a 4 Door Dodge Omni, it was Blue almost same color as my GTO and we kinda battled for the lane choice and that little thing whooped me I was accelerating in 3rd full throttle and he buzzed right by me.. I was amazed.. I caught up to him exiting the highway and Noticed it was a GLH Turbo Omni........... So be leary of those cars they fricken fly!!!!

Yea, those turbo 2.3's that Mopar used in the 80's was a total sleeper.
Where's that infamous video of the turbo 2.3L minivan that runs 12's?
But take solace in the fact that you ran into one of the 4 or 5 still in existence that actually run! They were highly problematic.

A good friend of mine has a shelby GLHS, one of 500, and it is damn quick. I'm sure that it will own stock ls1's all day long, he ran a 13.52@104 with it, and that was with about 50 less Hp than it has now. Keep in mind that 50 HP on a car that weighs 2600 lbs makes a hell of a lot more difference than a car that weigh's 3500 lbs. And there's alot more than 5 left, dodge omnis, chargers from the 80's, spirits and K cars all had the 2.2 l turbo, ald the later ones had a turbo3, lotus headed motor. those motors were a constant problem, but the turbo1 and 2 motors were very reliable. be warned... there's a few of those out there that run 10's.....

I had a 92 Spirit R/T. Now that car was fun. The looks on people's faces when the big 4 door was pulling away was priceless As for being the Turbo III and Turbo IV variants being unreliable, nope. The Lotus head was prone to cracking, as mine did. But the Turbo III was the stoutest piece made in the Turbo 2.2 family. The short block was bullet proof. The trans was the strongest made along with the clutch. Other than the head, it was a dynamite car. The Turbo IV was just a Turbo II with a VNT Turbo. Those just didn't like boost but a simple turbo swap and you were good to go. Also had the same trans as the R/T but with different gearing.

That being said you have to admire the speed those little buggers can muster.

Some say a face only a mother could love. I think they're cool...
1987 Shelby GLHS (based on the Charger)
1986 Shelby GLHS (based on Omni)
1987 Shelby CSX (based on the Dodge Shadow)
Those are just a few of the ones that you need to watch out for! Also, the Spirit R/T and Daytona IROC R/T, both with the TIII 2.2 rated at 224hp. These are the cars that I grew up lusting after as a teenager, while everyone else wanted a Mustang GT or Z/28.

I own a TIII 2.2 IROC R/T. I actually sold my WS6 for this car. It is sickly fast and is very nice to look at.
