Just wondering any advice on how to get around the sniffer when I want to add head and cam package to my GTO.......sorry if this might seem like a stupid question...like "How can I avoid a speeding ticket" Any help would be great

You can buy emissions legal heads and cams that won't pose a problem with the sniffer. Check out LPE and all of the other companies out there. You won't be disappointed. If you go too crazy on a cam, then you might have problems. A good tune after installing heads and a cam will help too.

Depends on how your state does testing too.. Down here there is no sniff test on OBD-II cars, they only plug into the connector and make sure no codes are set.

Most municipalities don’t use a sniffer test anymore. Everything on a 96+ OBDII vehicle is done via a PCM scan test. Once you do your heads and cam, have it tuned properly, any codes adjusted for type, all readiness monitors on, and self testing enabled, you’ll pass with flying colors. The sky is the limit. It’s actually easier to simply pass the test than it is to get around it. At least here in Illinois anyway. You’d have to prove your car is a show/race vehicle driven less than 10,000 miles annually.

Anyway, I’ve passed Illinois/Chicago’s OBDII scan test twice now with a heads and cammed Camaro with flying colors. They do the EVAP test (Gas cap pressure) then plug you in, 15 – 30 seconds later you’re done with a “pass”.

Piece of cake really!

You can always move to rural county, too Most don't test at all.

Here in PA if you drive the car less than 5000 miles a year you are exempt.
