That is like asking which tire is best to go fast on... It depends really on the use of the vehicle, powerband you want, how big your plans are later, if you plan on headwork or valvetrain upgrades, etc. I'm sure a few can chime in and say what their numbers were with specific cams but if you prefer more top end or more torque or whatever, it is all about what you want to gain.

Best bet would be to contact one of the cam companies (crane, comp, lunati, etc.) and tell them what you want. They should be able to give you some solid recommendations. Compare the results you get, and then make the call.

Yea, I can see it now... *pulls up with radical sounding GTO and lumpy idle* "Gee, thats a mighty big cam you got there."

I believe one could get away with a small cam if the catback was still stock. Problem is most guys want to do headers and a catback (usually a louder one) and then a cam. When the exhaust is so much more freeflowing it can't "hide" a cam very well at all

Your best bet is to look at f-bodies and vettes to determine what you want. People have tried just about every type of cam in those cars and you can easily find someone with a proven spec that meets your needs. The motor is the same and there are many options.

It is always a give and take situation. I think a really big cam in a GTO is kinda stupid, but to each his own. If it was me, I would probably go no bigger than a 224/224 on 114 with street style lobes, but there are profiles that will get you a lot more power.

I really agree with all of you guys about what you said . I have tried a lot of cams on the lumina ss (GTO) starting with the small one`s to the biggest . However , we didn`t like that kind of huge cams on it . Although we find out that ( TSP Custom 224R Cam: 224/224, .581"/.581", 114 LSA ) was the best choice for our GTO .It was in the middle in my opinion ,especially tha we combine great high rpm between cam and the ls6 . Our car dyno was 407 HP with the same parts you mentioned except for 3.46 gears , HPtuners and MT radials. We passed the 1/4 mile at 12.4 ... I dont remmember trap speed... any way we are going for a stall and some suspension , seeking 12.0 or high 11`s

see ya.

I would personally go with a 224/224 .56x/.56x on a 112 ( i like lope). the same cam on a 114 will make a little less torque down low and peak about 200 RPM higher.

Shoot.... if you've got those kinds of connections you should post it right up front. That opens the door very wide to a whole array of modifications
You'll be having a lot more fun with yours than I will mine- for a couple for years anyway!

Your upgrades are cool man I wish u a good luck and take your time choosing the right cam , and I advice u to do more research before u go for any decission . And as CHARRIS mentioned (That opens the door very wide to a whole array of modifications ). I really agree with him .
