broke rearend

My car is in the shop now, being covered under the extended warranty. I missed a shift at high rpm and the back end started shaking hard, I clutched in quickly but the damage was done. The car is bone stock.
Broken spline, left side axle shaft, and left side wheel bearing. The extended warranty is covering everything, no questions asked.
As for the comment about the guys with rags on their heads... I take great offense to that, they are actually little sheets, so from now on if you please do not use the term rag or rag head, use the more politically correct "little sheet head" thank you.

ROFL!
Yea, I can see a high RPM downshift into the wrong gear causing the internals to physicaly overspin and more or less explode. I'd wonder what sort of damage was caused to the engine or transmission also?

contact the BBB auto line. I had to do this years ago with my 99 sierra. I got alot of feedback quickly from the folks in Michigan......not some regional manager.
It doesn't cost you a penny and they will actually take it to court for you if needed. GM was kissing my @ss by the time it was over with. They bought my old truck back at book value and gave me a $1500 loyalty certificate off a new one.
Give it a shot........they had the ball rolling for me within a week. I would alert the dealership and the regional manager of your intentions. They know what BBB auto line is and they don't want a claim against them.
Good luck

warranty
why does GM give a warranty if they wont fix it? what about all the f-bodys diff failures ? did they void the whole warranty on those cars? no because they bought alot of failed diff on that breed. be persistant try and find more info on diff failures on these - to document that they fail regularly . and whats their point on black top do they think your jumping buildings with it? advise them of all the GM veh you own now and the dozens of people that will be told about their unwillingness to handle a warranty concern.

If you bought a GM becuase of the quality warranty then you must not have done your homework.
I haven't heard of too many diff's failing on these cars. When they day comes that i manage to kill mine that just means i have a reason to upgrade to the 9".

My 05 is in right now for diff noise. it's abiout to fail this is a well known problem on the goats. Do a search on ls1gto.com....
My dealer told me there waiting on 4 diffs right now and I'm 2nd in line they're on back order.
Your dealer is trying to f u I'd call the BBB now and I'll talk to them if needed My service manager is a good freind of mine and he would also talk to them also for you I'm sure...
Heres a quote off ls1gto.com
Please check rear axle bolts to ensure they are properly torqued.
(There is not an official TSB, but GM does have internal information on this issue if the dealer calls their technical assistance from GM. The basic outline of the repair is to use locktite 211 and torque to 60 ft/lbs (no additional degrees as listed in the service info). '05's already have loctite from the factory.
When i took my car in for the "thunk in the trunk" fix the dealer also put in all new axle bolts w/ loctite, they told me it was a TSB.)

His was not caused by the "thunk in the trunk." He took out the rear and the driveshaft. Despite a lot of people saying, the rears on these actually seem to be pretty decent. I've heard of numerous Aussie's running in the 11's on the stock rear. I know of at least two GTO's running in the 10's with the stock rear.

I knoow the thunk in the trunk is a different issue......
I run pretty fast with mine and have had no problems.
My stock 05 gto broke the rear end though so what do you think of that???????
And it's 4-8 weeks out for parts.
If you read it which i see you did not you'd see they are putting in new bolts with loctite on them.... So why the thunk in the trunk line????????????????

i broke my rear end in my 05 GTO, power shifting from 1 to second the first month i had it, went in for warranty work, they had the diff in about a couple days, but it took them a week to get some special fluid, well at least thats what they told me. i was cool they gave me a tahoe to drive around.
