Question Running Rich or Lean - How do you tell?...

I just had a stage 1 done to my '05 and I'm wondering if the engine is running either too rich or lean. At warm up (idle) I smell more gas than I did before... what do you think is causing this smell?

Thanks.
DB

What's a stage1? I assume that's a tune by some company? Please give us a lot more details.

smelling gas would probably be too rich.

Stage 1 ?? If thats a tune, was it done on a dyno? If so they should have used a wideband O2 to determine A/F ratio.

Stage 1 = Headers + X pipe & high flow cats, air intake, spark plugs & wires, thermostat adjustment, new short shifter and engine tune. It was suppose to include underneath pulley and belts, but they didn't come in on time.

Hope this additional information helps.

you'll probably need to gap the points properly first.

j/k - Go get the car tuned to get the A/F worked out and to get the most out of your upgrades.

pull a plug out and look at it, a plug tells you alot about your a/f ratio

Nothing worse than to smell gas in car or classroom.

That's why you're smelling gas. The addition of long tubes and a high flow or no catalytic converter will result in the smell of more unburned fuel. Smell alone won't let you know if you're running rich or not. You need to get the car on a dyno with a wideband to monitor your A/F ratio.
