Like the Camaro/Firebirds you need a new rear end & clutch before you

Both are nice cars. Your gonna sacrifice looks on ther GTO but your gonna sacrifice build quality and comfort on the Hawk. Both will be rare given time.
BTW-I have 275's on the rear of my goat.

I have one of each... 2000 Hawk Convertible with 400 rwhp, and 2004 GTO with 331 rwhp. My fiance' thankfully wants me to keep both of them (for now anyway!).
The GTO is my daily driver, and vehicle of choice if I'm going to be in the car for any significant amount of time. Much nicer vehicle from behind the wheel, and not as punishing to drive. The Hawk definitely gets more looks and is nowhere near as subtle, but suffers in the driveability standpoint. But the Hawk puts a bigger smile on my face the limited times that I drive it, because I know it's more difficult to control, and I enjoy knowing that I am able to harness it's power.
Think of each car like a pet dog: One is a fun loving Labrador Retriever, and the other is a snarling Pit Bull. Both are athletic and make fun and loyal pets, but one is a little more friendly, while the other is a little more aggressive...
Honestly, I don't think you can make a wrong decision. It just stinks that you have to make the decision in the first place... Best of luck to you, though.

This is posted in the special vehicle section and the numbers are 97 Firehawk ~ 20 GTO
Most suprising however is the fact that even in the GTO specific forum the votes are 80 Firehawk ~ 67 GTO
Wow, I would have lost all my money if I had bet that the results would be like this across the board.
Makes it that much sweeter when I open the garage door to drive my Firehawk...

I would ask the same poll on a GTO forum such as www.ls1gto.com , this particular GTO forum is just a place for Camarobird owners to crap on their GTO brothers. Funny how most of the posters on here dont even have GTOs yet they all have opinions about them.
Great tech on the tech forum here however ..

Put a set of 14 x 7" rims with biased belted tires and any ls-1 car would be lucky to break 16's. I mean damn, you can roast 275/40/17's or thereabouts of modern tire technology pretty much at will.
I would keep the hawk myself.

I thought the stock GTO shifter was WAY better than the stock shifter on my Camaro. I put the stock shifter on my SS before I traded it so I had a back-to-back comparison. You can swap both so that shouldn't have anything to do with the decision. I drove a GTO with the GMM shifter and it felt just like the Pro 5.0 on my Camaro.

Not kidding. There was an '05 owner talking smack and he only did a low of 14.1 the whole day. Not to be a dick, but honestly those goats run pretty slow at these tracks. And that shifter...

At my track, 04's run between 13.8-14.5. My buddy just bought a brand new auto GTO and it was running consistent 13.5's @ 105.
As for the question at hand, I would keep the Hawk because it is more rare.
