Default Thinking of buying a GTO, have ?s.

Thinking of buying a used 04 or 05. My questions are what is the fuel mileage, city/highway, ET(stock), what are some good basic mods to do, where can I find some pics of different rims/tires and paint schemes?
Also how well do they handle, looking to do some road coarses, and or time trials.

Thanks.

I am on LS1GTO a lot. My stock fuel mileage is around 20.5 mpg at 50% highway and 50% city driving, cruising at 70 mph on the highway.

Wheels and tires are a bit hard to find for the GTO. The wheel wells don't handle much wider tires.

There is a manufacturer called Pedders that is highly recommended on LS1GTO. They have many variations of suspension setups depending on your goal.

If you are thinking of doing road coarses (not counting autocrosses in there) get an 05 because of the much better brakes. However, if you have the money to spend on racing, you probably have the money to buy an 04 and put some huge Wilwood or Stoptech brakes on the 04.

Like the man said, http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/index.php?.

My '05 fuel economy is about 17 MPG at 90% city driving (and hitting the loud pedal more frequently than I should). I really have not taken the car on any road trips so I can't really comment on highway mileage. The ET is somewhere in the low 13s to say 13.5. This is just an estimate and does not take into account elevation, ambient air temperature, track preparation, driver capability, etc. I believe that there is also a difference between the A4 and M6.

For a road course, you will more than likely want to sink some $$$ into suspension and brakes mods. Don't get me wrong. The GTO is quite capable in its stock configuration, but it could be better and there are other vehicles out there that are superior in this respect (i.e., STi). It all depends on how serious you are.

If I were going to purchase a used GTO, I would go with the '05-'06. That is simply because of styling and the extra ponies. However, you could always get an '04 and make some performance mods. I guess it just depends on where you want to spend the money and what is important.

I know that my rambling does not help you with your decision. I would suggest that you take a run over to either newagegto.com or ls1gto.com an do a little research. There is a wealth of information out there.

Great site to read up at.

I got great gas milage when the car was stock. 16-17 city and 21-22 highway with an A4. Some first mods like any other vehicle is to get it to breath good. Some long tubes, catback, cold air intake and with these cars I highly suggest a dyno tune (after those mods).
