7. Gas tank takes up trunk space
8. Flower Power wheels
9. Tires from the factory
10. The 04 Autos run 14s

The weight is the main thing.
That mostly sums it up for me as well.

I'd probably go:

1. Weight, how about a 500 pound diet, K thanks!
2. Semi-weak IRS, already turned one differential into a chatterfest.
3. Limited tire/wheel sizing (due to room under the fender)
4. Stereo leaves much to be desired, NAV option would be even better.
5. WTF Who took my trunk? (gas tank placement)
6. Somewhat flakey factory tune that runs good 70% of the time and so-so the other 30% (bad gas?)
7. Rubber-matic factory shift lever
8. WTF Warrenty? Come on now, get with the program. It's not the 80's anymore!
9. Hi, traction? (Not that too much power is a problem or anything.)
10. Can I find a dealership service department that doesnt want to hastle me when I go in for service?

1. Missing door lock button (not a prob on 06)
2. Slow seats
3. Stock shifter
4. Stereo
5. Back fenders not able to accept cool tires like 335's
6. Such an awesome car I want to drive it all of the time

I can't come up with ten things that I don't like about my GTO. I'll give a stab at things that could have been improved, but, yeah, IMO it would be nitpicking.

1. Rubbery stock shifter (fix = GMM)
2. Soft rear springs (fix = Pedders and Konis)
3. Excessive body roll (fix = Hotchkis swaybars)
4. Crappy stock tires (fix = yeah, you guessed it...)
5. Needs at least 9" wide wheels out back (fix = aftermarket or widening stock and fender roll - not unlike F-body)
6. Weight - she is heavy. Would love to have this car at ~200lbs lighter.

The slow power seats don't bother me since I don't have back seat passengers and I could give a **** about nav, XM, or stereo options. I have a map and my favorite music already comes out the back (besides anybody looking for REAL audio performance ain't going to care about what came stock anyway...)

Oh wait, I will add one more oddball. I think the jacking points kinda suck on this car - especially up front. I have three different kinds/sizes of floor jacks and none of them work real well up front on this car. I'm not a fan of jacking on the pinch weld, but I end up doing it a lot. You kinda need a long, low-profile floor jack (the aluminum versions seem to work the best) if you plan on working on a GTO.

1.) Rear seat access sucks
2.) Speed sensitive wipers
3.) Small trunk
4.) Strut rub issue on '04s
5.) Wish it had window controls on the door
6.) Stock shifter
7.) No oil pressure gauge
8.) It makes my Firebirds feel like beaters

That's all I can think of, overall I think it's a great car.. I love the **** out of it, one of the best cars I've ever owned.

BTW... those of you who complained about the low beams... have you tried to adjust them? I got mine set to where they are pretty nice... the high beams are incredible, better than the ones on my STi.

I actually thought the speed senstive wipers were pretty neat. Though I Rain-X, sometimes it wheres off.

Probably one of the least heard about complaint is the quality of the interior and ride quality. It is one of the most solid I have have ever been in. I just got a 20 lap ride in a C6 around Nelson Ledges race course near Youngstown, Ohio. Granted its a sport car, but the interior had similar silver plastic, but larger pieces that looked over done and cheap compared to the GTO. The only part of the layout that was neat was the buttons that came off the dash toward the steering wheel, rather than on the dash like the GTO. Ride quality was a bit rough for the grip level in this Z51 equipped car. With the right tire the GTO will communicate grip level. The C6 in Competition Mode nothing would be felt, but the IP would light up. No driver involvement, just the computer doing it's thing. Sure glad I did not spend the extra $15K for one.

Power level felt the same with a little less torque management being felt between the shifts.

I need your help in choosing exit exhaust on C5 project:

1. independent rear issues (wheel hop)
2. shifter is a little sloppy
3. torque mgmt. need LS2 edit bad

most owners are getting weights of 3700 -3800. our hawk's weight is 3680 so i don't get the complaints on the gto weight

That 3680# has to be including driver. My SS with full interior including spare, heavy-*** ZO6 wheels, and 3/4 tank of gas weighed in at 3511 minus driver when I corner weighed it two weeks ago.

I see curb weights for the GTO listed anywhere from 3725-3787 depending on where you look. I haven't weighed mine personally.

I suppose they would be neat if you only drive in the city, or you live somewhere that it doesn't rain a lot... but I live in Seattle. We get a lot of days where it's just raining lightly... so you want to be able to use the intermittent wipers.

Problem is that I do mostly highway driving... so when you're going 60-70 mph, the speed adjustment makes it so that you basically have 4 settings... ranging from about a 10-second pause, to about a 5 second pause... and on full. I can set it to run intermittent on the top three "notches" on the adjuster, but once I hit notch #4, it runs with no delay... and if it's raining enough that a 1 or 2 second delay would be what you need, you can't get that at highway speeds. You either have to do it manually, or run the wipers full on.

Once I slow down enough it works great... but I'd rather just be able to control it myself.

DrEvyl, I guess it is not rain but road spray that the intermitent settings works best. If I am on the highway Rain-X and no wipers for me.

Either that or it does not rain much in Aussie Land.

For those who want a louder stereo thers a write up on how to increase the factory amp gain. I did that and it sounds alot nicer. You also have to disable the factory distortion management in the optios menu. Do a search on ls1gto.com

The CD player is pathetic!!! Wish it got louder for punk kids like myself.

The wheels suck. The tires are too small. Seat motor is slow. Wish it had door locks...same **** you guys said

BUT I LOVE THIS CAR!! Luxury + muscle, cant beat it.

I've owned 3 different Goats now... noticed the same things on all of them (M6 '04, A4 '04, A4 '05)

1) trunk sucks... (damn gas tank)
2) slow power seats (never use them though)
3) intermittent wiper control sucks... (about 3 clicks in the center range don't change the speed at all...)
4) wheel wells/factory wheel/tire size
5) stock M6 shiftet SUCKS ***!
6) Torque management sucks as well...
7) No oil pressure gauge.
8) No voltage gauge.
9) Factory shift light isn't activated...
10) Plastic lug nut covers suck... they're snap on ones instead of threaded ones.

*I really can't complain much... I've had 3 of them and have had a '02 WS6 convertible along with my GTA, GTP, and a sunfire GT... the GTO's have definately been the best daily drivers but I'll take any of my Ponchos!

I think the suspension related concernss are purposely detuning the GTO from the factory. Got to remember the marketing end when they have the '05 Corvette with the same engine for $15K more. Because the performance is so close might explain why theyput M+S all season tires on a 400hp car. The tires don't have the traction so the programming matches.

The GTO suspension is soft fitting the GT classification and not sport car like the C6. Besides there are the looks. I have allot interest on the street in the GTO than my C5 had.

It's been done - do a search on ls1gto.com for more info...I think it was AZ Power and Sound...

1. Slow power seats - good manual seats would have been better
(Fixed on 2006 units)

2. Small trunk (not a bid prob for me though)

3. Crap stock shifter on M6s (easily changed)

4. Crap stock headers lost 20-30 HP (afternoon job, easy car to work on)

5. Dealer network is poor in general (but whatcha gonna do?)

6. Heavy (but I like the crash rating so I'll go find some more HP)

7. 2004 brakes were undersized (fixed 2005+; 2004s - go get some Powerslots)

8. Should have come with shorter rear gears stock (fixed that too)

9. Umm...?

10. Ahhh...?

All in all, a pretty sweet ride IMHO!

What's up with all the non-GTO owners chiming in, those posts dont count.

Pick 20 cars and you will find owners who dont like something about their ride. I would only suggest you test ride one for a day, if you aint hooked after that, then dont buy it.
