I am in the Los Angeles area where are you? I have a bone stock '05 GTO M6 and a stock '04 Cobra take your pick, by the way, there is no margin of difference between these two cars, and they will stay stock. Now, I don't know a lot about the F-Body cars or the LS1 engine. But I take a difference to those who say stock-for-stock the cars are same etc. I just want to see it happen. I will pay fro track times at Willow.
Here is my proposal:
- 1/ 4 Run (3 passes)
- Willow Springs - Horse Thief Circuit (3 passes)
- Willow Springs - Open track for the straight away (3 passes)

In my experience I have beat 2 fbody and lost to one. The one i lost to had all the bolt-ons to my stock car. The 2 I beat were a 2000 trans am ws6a4 and a 2002 ss vert 6sp. I had a full car on the ta by the top of 3rd. The ss was a closer race. Had a half car on him when we shut down. Oh by the way, my goat is an 04 which was completely stock at the time

Let's see... a LS2 Goat putting down about 350RWHP while a LS1 fbody is putting down about 300-315RWHP. 35-50RWHP advantage for the Goat and it only weighs about 200lbs more... simply put, the GTO should win. It could be a driver's race (I guess) but with equal drivers I'd put my money on the GTO everytime. As already stated, '05/'06 LS2 cars are very good runners... 12's stock is often possible. Tune the LS2's and just delete torque management and its a whole different story. Our bone stock '05/A4 car went 13.20's its first time to the track. I know 12's are in there and with a basic tune I bet 12.70's or more are there. I've had 3 GTO's (2-LS1's, and this LS2) and this LS2 pulls alot harder up top!

My firend has an '06 With ~5k miles on it, just picked up some Corsa and a diablo tuner thing off ebay... From what I hear after getting rid of that TRM bullshit, the car is a totally different animal. Those with the LS2s, judging from my mods what do you think the outcome would be? I have a feeling he'd pull me on the top end

I put down 355RWHP with my '05 LS2 M6 goat with only a K&N panel filter. I recently bought HPTuners and tuned out torque mgmt and made the IAT timing retard much less agressive....the thing is an animal now.

Hi, I raced a guy around that time. He had an SS with a bunch of mods and a guage pod on the pillar that i could see. it was black. I was in my stock 06 gyclone grey GTO. Took me a sec to realize the contest at hand, just got the gto and no one ever tried me in my Grand AM GT, but i stayed with him all the way, maybe closed the gap from his jump just a bit. we were on Kings Highway in Port Charlotte, FL. Was this you? Nice SS if it was..

LS1 v.s. LS1 the f-body will win
LS1 F-Body v.s. LS2 GTO -- GTO should win, but thats not always the case as both have torque management, the GTOs is just alot more invasive.
i know I'm now racing pro, but when I took my GTO the first time I was a drag strip virgin, having only logged 2700 miles on my GTO, it's also my first stick car. it was my first time w/ a RWD and stick car at the track. I have been to the track before, but in a FWD grand prix GTP.
I ran a 13.0@108 on a 2.0 60' Bone stock, 2700 on the odo
I then added headers, and added a K&N panel filter, still untuned, and ran 13.2@111 on a 2.3 60' -- had I gotten decent launches like my first time out, I believe I'd have some nice 12.6ish time slips.
i never got to run it at the track tuned, but the SOTP impression was that the GTO drove and felt like a totally different car.
my tuner said that the stock tune was total crap. not enough total timing, a/f ratio WAY WAY off, and of course the TM far too invasive.
after the tune, I'll be honest, it was a beast. I got used to a hard howl on the 1-2 and just chirps on the 2-3 and the 3-4 shift, but after the tune it howled the 1-2 rediculously hard, then howled hard again on the 2-3, and had a hard chirp on the 3-4, akin to how the 2-3 used to be.
these LS2s make alot of power up top and don't fall off, my tuner, even on a mostly stock car recommended me shifting around 6800 instead of the previous 6400, since it just kept pulling.

well, driver's race or no, the goat can outmaneuver an fbody, and is a blast to drift. the straight line is over-rated, imho. they are 2 different cars. if you want to drag, get the fbody. if you want to carve up some hills, go for the goat. can't we all just get along? i wouldn't drift an f body, so dont put a straight axle in my goat.

I raced a stock 04 gto in my trans am from a roll and killed him by A BIZALLION CAR LENGTHS, but like Ive said before they are far superior in build quality and I love them.

It is easier to drift in an F-body than a GTO I bet. It is easier to drift in my old 99 Z28 than in my 2001 C5. The IRS helped keep it steady while the heavy nosed F-body whipped the back-end like it was a fishing line with a lead eight attached.
