04-05 Pontiac GTO Recall? Just a warning to you 04-05 owners, I came across this today, and thought I would post this up to help prevent any accidents or injuries due to this "tire wear problem.
I also know alot of guys have aftermarket wheels on here, so please take a quick look.

There's no reason to even look, why should the alignment be screwed up on a brand new car?

Umm all you have to do is turn your wheel to one side and look for rub marks on your struts. Or you can reach over the tire and feel for clearance. 90% of these cases are only alignment issues which translates to poor maintence. Everyone is amking as big a deal out of this as they can. It's very well documented that GTO's have little extra clearance in the front. If you look at your tires every oil change you should be able to spot a problem.

This story was first uncovered by the investigative reporter on WEWS in Cleveland Ohio several weeks ago. The NHTSA investigation was started because of it. If you want to catch up read the links below. Situation is being handled.

Why would you look at a tire with less than a 1000 miles on it in some cases. Some of the complaints that have been filed have been on cars with anywhere from 500 - 1000 miles. Its not a recall but it is currently being investigated. I would worry more about the strut issues with some of the 06's.

I would just like to get my money back for the alignment and the tires I had to buy at 15k on the odometer. The dealer told me I hit something as I showed the tech the shining metal on the strut

I had a slight rub on my car but when the new wheels/tires were installed, had a front end alignment, end of strut rub. 1st set lasted almost 25K miles, had to replaced from excessive tire spin.

It is just as of now a NHTSA investigation. NHTSA investigates things such as this all the time. It COULD possibly turn into a recall of the government agency feels it should be. There will be an investigation and review with GM on this and at the given time, either a recall will be issued voluntarly by GM, non-voluntarily and mandated by NHTSA, or NHTSA will say the complaints do not warranty a recall. Normal procedure there...
I personally inspected my GTO this weekend... I do have some strut rub as you can see where there has been impact marks on the strut casing. I am going to take it in for an alignment here soon anyways, so I will have them look then. I did not see anything on the inside of the tire, but appears the alignment is out due to improper wear on the inside of the pass front tire. I rotated everything anyways, so we will see.

Dealers don't care. I went to my dealer with 9,995 miles. ust before the 10k mile mark, and after that, (DMS told me) they would not pay for the fix. I told them that the car has strut rub. They looked at me like I had 5 heads. I am not a GM tech, but I am an ASE tech working in a private repair shop. I took the time to give the a tour of my worn tire, and shinny struts. They said they do not have the equipment to fix it. Was odd, but they sub out there alignments. The alignment shop has no idea how to fix it, nor do a cradle alignment. I hate being in a small state. No one knows anything.
Sorry, this was a rant. End results. My stock tires have less than 2,500 miles on it. I usually have my MC2 wheels on. My tires are worn to crap, and I just washed this problems away. These tires are going to be a pile of rubber, and I just installed a slue of Pedders bushings. My alignment will be fixed soon. Out of pocket.
