Default 04 Gto Vs 05/06 Gto

Almost a year ago, I raced a 2004 GTO (before my mods)which I was told by the driver was stock. The race was dead even. I could not pull away from this guy. A few months later and then again a few weeks ago(while my car was still stock), I raced a 2006 GTO. The first time, I pulled on him a little. The second one, again was dead even. Now, I know that the 05/06's are putting out alot more power, but does it weighing more slow the car down that much to make it about the same as an 04?

Yep. You should beat on '04 but '05/'06 is pretty even. That being said I have beat an '03 Cobra with my '04 at the track by .3 seconds so who knows.

its all about the launch man...

stock 04 M6s were dynoing around 300 RWHP and stock 05/06 M6s were dynoing around 330~340. So that not a huge difference if the 04 owner can drive his car and the 05/06 guy cant. I had a buddy with an 04 on stock tires with only a CAI, LTs and a tune and he got that car in the 12.8s all day long. But there are plenty of 05/06 guys with the same mods on DRs that cant do it.... these are hard cars to drive, so I would say its not out of the question to be dead on with a talented driver in an 04.

In your case its all about the driver.

Unless the 04 owner was lying about the mods!

Who knows. The gto i raced last (the 06 i was dead even with when my car was bone stock) i raced again a few days ago AFTER my mods, and what a difference. I had him by about 3 cars or so by the time I hit 3rd gear and kept pulling. Now, my buddies modded SS (Gruntwork) runs away from me when I hit 3rd, and he raced an 06 GTO a few months ago and it was dead even with him. So it just goes to tell ya what a few mods can do I these cars. Anything is possible

Its all in the driver, also depends if the cars were auto or stick.

And your sig picture is huge and will get removed.

I ran one of those silly sc'd cobra's on the freeway about a month ago with my 04 gto.

pulled about 2 cars from 80-150 with a na 346 with just a cam(compxr281hr) and pacesetter lt's with 3" mid and no cats and flowmaster 40's.

that is with zero power adders he pulled up and nailed it i could hear the sc whineing just like he prob was when he could not not catch me turning 6800 in 3rd and had to back out because my a4 is apos to get o/d

if i would have sprayed him it would not have even been fun(i don't have a remote bottleopener or i would have)

either way a na ls1 whooped a ford and his plate said 500 hp

it was the best

No what he is saying is that it is too big according to the Signature guidlines set. It will be removed. Just shrink it and you will be fine.

"silly sc'd cobras"??? Tell me your joking. Underestimating those cars is not a smart thing to do.

trust me i know what a sc'd car can do. But you have to admit to pull a guy with a liscence plate that says 500hp with a na ls1 is a sweet kill.

Dont get me wrong i know a properly set up sc'd cobra can make some big hp.

I am not that ignorant. but i did race that guy and i know he had video cuz i saw his buddie tapeing but did not post it.

overall it was stupid.doing 150 on a freeway. i just got caught up in the moment.

but still i am proud as hell that i could pull on him. but it was only after i went over 6k rpms that i would slowly start to pull away. prob when then cam and headers started to work. under 6k he was gaining. but damn it was fun.

you know what the truth is .99% of the cars you see on the road are easy pray.

the chances of comeing up on somthing good are far and few inbetween

now with my car being a ls1 04gto with the afr heads,lt's and the 150 wet kit could prob hold it's own anywhere.

same as comeing up on a cobra with 10k in mods .they are out there but not everyday you come across one .

no offense i love the look of the cobra. but some how my brain is wired gm and i love my goat.

no reason why i think it is just the way i am.

and i do respect them.but i also don't think they respect me.but my car is one of those you never come across. a gto with good heads, cam, tune,lt's,no cats, every thing.

you know what i mean. john q public is not like the peaple on this site.

Thats fine bro, but that post made you sound ignorant as hell. If he had 500hp on his tag and you pulled him, you have one bad *** ride, but with that power level he prob. had a ported blower and upper/lower pullies. Sorry to say, but with those mods 9 out of 10, the Cobra would beat you(without you spraying) but obviously you outperformed him which is half the battle. Not taking anything away from your car, Im sure it fukin moves, or bashing GTO's, just your post made me cringe calling them silly when there are ALOT of Cobras out there that would destroy you(KB/Whipple cars come to mind), but its hard to tell what people mean on the internet

I dont own a Cobra, not sure where you got that. I would run you in my 2000 GT if it was still here, but I sold it to buy the 98 SS in my sig. And I browse through every forum on this site just checking things out, I saw the title of this thread and thought it would be interesting to read some comments. Yours radiated ignorance so I posted. Not being a jerk or anything.

Alot of it has to do with the driver. Also torque management and heat soak are killers on the GTO and you could've ran into one that had some of it's power pulled because of the maf sensor detecting heat. There have been alot of '05/06 GTO's owners that said when there car was hot it would struggle to get out of the 14's and trap over 98 in the 1/4. After a little cool down the same car was running mid to low 13's and trapping at 105+ like nothing.

My GTO hasn't run a 13 sec 1/4 in a long time.

Last 4 times to the track all 12's. And I'm basically stock.
