Default exhaust questions

I just bought an 06 GTo m6 and i want to add some sound to it. I was thinking about the borla cat back system with the x pipe but i live in california and im not sure if that would pass smog. if not i was thinking of putting either super 40's or loudmouth 2's.

Super 40s are very loud, too loud if you got a sensitive date. Im using exhaust cutouts, they work like a dream, I can switch from stock note to superloud in a second.
Check it out. You can also go on youtube for sound clips.

i dont think you will have a problem. smog checks for cats/movement of cats. your just replacing the mufflers. so i think you will be fine. i have the SLP LM1 and love it.

I've got the Borla, and love it,
it won't affect your emissions (unless you do the Long Tube Headers (with or without cats))

not too crazy loud, but people know when you stomp on it.

all my friends love the sound, not obnoxious (even with the headers with cats)
many friends weren't sure about the "Grapefruit shooters" exhaust tips.
but most all of my friends feel that they fit the car very well

good luck

Everything AFTER the post cat O2 sensor (which any GTO cat-back is) is nothing more than noise abatement. It will have no affect on emissions.

As to chosing, I suggest listening to a few GTO's first before buying. I was running Stainless Works LT's, catless mids and an SLP Loudmouth and it was just absurdly loud. It was great if you had the windows open or were standing outside. But withe windows closed, conversations with passengers was a futile attempt, it rattled something in my dome light loose and after awhile would start giving me a headache.

With an executive order by the Wife to quiet it down if she was to ride in it, I put on a Stainless Works cat-back and have been as happy as can be since. It's MUCH quieter, very mellow, and deep sounding. But at WOT it's loud. The downside to this system is that it is a hard fit (for '04's anyway) due to the large diameter plumbing.

I am looking for the SLP LM 1 catback for my 04. I found it for $550 on a website. If anyone finds it cheaper could you post the link and price? Thx

Buy used on here or on LS1GTO.com! LM's tend not to last on these cars long because they're pretty, well, absurdly LOUD, so most users (like myself) remove them and sell them.

I love my Borla. As was said above, you can find tons of catbacks on sale on ls1gto...my buddy just found a Corsa in great condition for a steal.

Borla could be alittle loud for most. If you want something quiet at idle and putting around but will scream when you hit it get Magnaflow.
