Personally the exhaust set up and hood would really make me want the 05-06 too.

pffft, the exhaust setup and hood is what attracted me to the 05. Sleek looking duals and a clean front end....

You're right, and your trap will go lower as you get traction and e/t lower.

none of those time are "typical" for an ls1gto....most of the drivers can't even get them out of the high 13's stock....thats why there is such a misconception the ls1gto is a "slow car" and "runs with 350zs" lol

Very true. I have an 04' M6, and I'm not even gonna begin to do serious mods until I figure out what kind of launches this car likes. Personally, I would take an 04', slap on some gears, drag bags, and good tires and hang with the 05-06 models easily, if not romp on them a little bit. Then once I got the feel for the car and mastered the launching techniques, I'd go for bol-on mods, and cheaper stuff like that to get myself deep into the 12's. I think you'll save around 5K average to stick with an 04' rather than the LS2 models.

I felt the same way guys, I really did. I was all about showing how well the LS1 cars could perform. I then realized that the improvements for the 05/06 were worth the money. Bigger engine = more power. It's common sense. Also, better brakes, rear, etc. There's nothing wrong with the '04 (especially for how cheap you can pick them up), but mod for mod, the LS2 is better.

Agreed, unless your going to do a motor swap, or turn the car into some kind of warrior or race-only setup. Then it's all about getting the cheapest shell. So I guess it really matters on the drivers intent foremost.

Default LS1 vs.LS2?

It depends on your long term goals for the car. Staying stock? I'd go LS2.
Modding? LS1, assuming there is a price difference between an 04 and a 05/06 that warrants it.
The 04 CTS-V is basically the same LS1 as the 04 GTO, but with different cam. So, 400 hp, cam only. A cam, CAI and tune will have you whooping stock LS2s' all day long, and should be with a lower acquisition cost overall going 04 LS1 vs. LS2 05/06.
P.S. A pair of C5 pads upfront makes the brakes better.

There's more to that LS6 than just a cam - like heads!

Really? What specifically did GM do to the heads on the CTS-V at the factory?
