Default 04 vs 05..

Okay. So I'm looking at selling my MC SS and getting a GTO.. I have a few questions though. The only manual tranny GTO's I can find in my area are the 04's. 5.7's, LS1. 350hp. The only 6.0's I can find are Automatics. I want the power, but I also want a manual. Do you guys know at all if the 5.7 will run with a 6.0, around the same area, or will I be happier with a 6.0 and an automatic?

ti be honest ive seen alot of ls2 gto's at the track running my exact times maybe a mph or so higher with the same mods so save the money and get a ls1...

i never even wanted a ls2 car no offense to them but the money i saved made up for it, and pretty much just as fast..

The LS2 is stronger. Mod for mod, it will make more power. How anyone can disagree is beyond me. It's like trying to convince yourself a 305 makes more power than a 350.

eh, I find the '04 to sound a good bit better, actually.

IMO, 50 extra horses and better brakes are worth the couple thousand difference. However, if you can find a really good deal on an '04, after you throw on a couple mods it's all about the same...

My sig didn't lie, I just need a bit more of a professional opinion. For the service I offer, I tell them I ask others about the vehicle. And thank you all for the input. My question still remains, do the 6-speed LS1's run even with an Automatic LS2? I know that the LS2 is an auto, so it's only a 4-speed, but still.. I mean, I'm not looking for gas mileage, I'm looking for fun. But I don't want to be stuck at 13mpg.

Gas mileage between the two cars all depends on how each are driven as well as the obvious the transmission types, A4 or M6. The M6 is obvioulsy going to get better MPG, auto's worse.

But comparing an LS1 with an LS2, I've heard different opinions about which one gets the better MPG.

I would think the LS2 would get better because of the bigger cubic inches, with the more power it has, the car has to work less to power the car. As the Ls1 it would have to work harder consuming more fuel. (thinking in terms of weight)

That's my opinion. Some people might say vice versa.

All in all when it comes down to it comparing stock to stock, it's not really making a difference, even when buying a car of this type MPG shouldn't be a main concern I think.

I've never had an issue with an 05-06 in my 04....I've been told my car is a factory freak, but it seriously put down a 13.2 @109 with a 2.31 60 ft with intake and headers and exhaust

Yes, I would. I own an '04 GTO.

If you find, say, an '05 for 19k and an '04 for 17k, all else equal, I'd say the LS2 and better brakes are well worth the 2k difference. 3k+ difference and it's more of a toss up because you can upgrade the '04 to be better than the '05 with the money you save.

That is, however, with my preference of the '04 appearance as well. If you like the hood scoops and dual exit exhaust, then there's a money value associated with that as well.
