Default 17x11 ZR1's on all 4 corners?...advice needed

Hey guys,

I'm getting the Camaro ready for her first AutoX season and need some opinions...

I'm ready to buy a full set of wheels/tires for the track (autocross and road course) and am trying to do it budget-minded. The set that comes to mind is a full set of 17x11" ZR1s. I want to run street tires, not slicks.

I need to make sure that they will work with my Pro-Kit (BFH, fender rolling is OK).

Can anyone shed some light on my questions? I appreciate the input, and if you have other suggestions for wheels I'd like to hear them!

EDIT: OR I am interested in wide C5 Z06 wheels...I don't know the exact sizing on them...

I can't validate you on FRRAX, but I left note in the Mod section referncing this thread. Kevin is pretty responsive.

If you can wait a short while, I think all your questions will be answered in that thread.

I ran ZR1s for a while (CCWs now). They'll fit with no hammering if you roll the fender lips, get the spacer thickness right and shift the rear end with an adjustable panhard. I'm lowered with a GC kit instead of the Eibach Pro springs.

You're going to have to expect a bit of rubbing no matter what you do. Pound the inner fenders enough and you'll rub on the control arms. Get my point? We're putting 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag here. Just keep tweaking it until you find a happy place where the rubbing is minimal. With all that said, Kumhos rub much less than Hoosiers due to the tire profile and construction.

You're valid on frrax, try it now.

I ran 7/16" in the rear.

It will depend on your particular car. They seem to vary quite a bit. 1/2 inch worked for me.

Mount up a wheel and take some careful measurements to start.

Street tires as in true street tires or DOT R-compounds?

That being said 4X 275 DOT R-compounds will be faster than 4X 315 street tires.

I wouldn't spend much on street tires cause you're gonna want R's before too long, they really are THAT much better.

They will fit in the car if the back seat is out completely and you put one in the passenger front seat held in with the seat belt. Not ideal, but I fit all 4 wheels/tires, jack, helmet, cooler and rubber maid tub full of tools/fluids/junk, and I had an air tank and cordless impact.....it'll fit. No passengers allowed though.

Or I could just use street tires and concern myself with my driving

I don't like to switch parts or trailer cars for track use. I think there's more to be said for a car that you can drive to the track, race it, be competitive and fast, and drive it home without any changes except maybe air pressure or suspension stiffness.
