Default Pedal positions

What's your preferred pedal arrangement? What I mean is, if you have an adjustable master do you still keep the clutch pedal at the same height as the brake pedal? Have you modified the throttle pedal to be raised and/or physically closer to the brake pedal for heel/toe? Have you purchased aftermarket pedals, if so, which?

Essentially, what have you done with the pedals to make them work better for you?

All I did was get a gas pedal and make it about 2" wider, leaving a very small amount of space between the brake pedal and tha gas pedal. It is made from 3/16" extruded plastic and screwed to the stock pedal.

If I don't get my foot all the way onto the brake pedal, I will mash the gas paedal as well when I'm full on the brakes.

But H/T is a lot easire for me and my club feet.

I'm planning on doing the same thing as described above by mitchntx. With this setup, instead of actually using your heel on the brake and toe on the gas, you can use the right and left edges of your foot. That way you don't have to twist your leg at a weird angle every time. I've driven cars set up this way before and it works well, although it takes some getting used to. If you're the only one that drives the car, I think it's great, but if you have some "normal" drivers also, they may get into trouble.

Here's a howto link:
http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/heeltoe.html

Another idea I had was to eliminate the joint in the gas pedal so doesn't swivel when you tap it. That way you wouldn't have to hit it so close the the middle of the pedal to get consistant results. The old cars were this way from the factory.

At first, I did put a piece of 1x4, shaped to fit the existing gas pedal with a little overhang.

But I roll the side of my foot to blip the throttle as opposed to using my toe or heel. I sprained my ankles years ago and have limited range of motion. I can roll, just not twist.

What I found was that when I placed the inside ball of my foot on the brake pedal, it wasn't parallel to plane of the brake pedal. My foot was already rolled sideways a bit.

So, I took away the height the 1x4 created and replaced it with the thinner piece of plastic and it worked out much better.

One other thing I noted was that the brake pedal height changed from sitting still in my driveway to driving down the street to brakes fully up to temp and me stabbing the the pedal trying to slow down enough for turn in. This is where I needed the proper height ...

I would like to try to install a bottom hinged pedal, like from an old Impala. I have a problem with the top of the pedal moving on the hinge.

Glenn,

Do you have a pic of how these look installed? I'm just trying to get an idea of how close together they are.

So it raises the gas pedal as well? From the pic it appears to do so.

YES! That's what I was refering to in my post above. I think the same effect could be had by just freezing up the joint in the stock pedal somehow.

well it does raise it. and here is why- the brake and clutch pedal rubber covers have to be removed and the new covers installed (bolted on). they are a little thinner than the rubber cover. and the gas peddal just bolts on top of the stock part thus raising it some. i still think the gas pedal could be raised another 1/8" or so. but one thing to keep in mind, the brake pedal will travel much farther down on the track than on the street.

I have similar pedals...and agree that the gas still needs a spacer of some sort to be better. I can heel/toe with my track shoes but still have trouble with my work type shoes :/

I am going over to Simpson to get some track shoes. I am hoping they will help, otherwise I am just lame.

How about just bending the gas pedal to make it work?
