Default C5 vs C6 brakes

I was told by a good buddy that a C5 Caliper will taper wear pads in a heavy HPDE car like mine. The C6 is less prone to this, any input? Mitch?

C5 and C6 brake pads are exactly the same. look up the part numbers on tirerack. the only difference in brake setups are: C6 calipers are supposedly stronger, and C6 rotors are slightly thicker, yet not directionally vaned.

I was told the CALIPERS taper wear the pads on a heavy car because they spread(C5).

my car is basically full weight, with C5 calipers, and have no wear issues at all.

AFAIK, the C5 and C6 calipers are exactly the same.

trackday, autox. bone stock brakes (outside of pads) are fine for autox. i always drive at least 90-100% during a track day, and im not easy on the brakes. etown is a tight track thats hard on stopping. ive never had anything spread or any weird wear issues.

Interesting. Can you give me details on the differences? Only info I could find was that the C6 calipers dont use the anti-rattle shims.

Go find some pictures, and it'll be pretty apparent. The C5 calipers have full width stiffening ribs (the F-body caliper stiffening ribs only went part way across the caliper), but the C6 caliper has even more meat along the back side. I've seen people claim that the C6 calipers are 25% stiffer than the C5 calipers, and they certainly look more beefy.

I'm pretty sure the piston size is the same, as is most of the rest of the caliper. It is just the extra material across the back that makes the difference.

We switched from C5 calipers to C6 calipers on our T1 car, the C6 calipers have more meat on them and so far we haven't spread them. But they will spread, and you will still taper pads. Before you blame the caliper I would change the caliper pins (what the caliper slides on). We change these every 3 -4 races and that really seems to help taper.
If it's time to buy and the rules allow it buy the C6 caliper, ours lasted over a year (C5's would've been toast by now) We'll have to see how many more races we get out of them.

Thanks for the info LT-4Play. Info I needed to know.

I spead a pair of stock LS1 calipers in just one HPDE braking from 135mph down to 60, and again in the same lap 80mph+ to 35mph for 85 laps. Burnt the piston boot off in one sessions.
