Hey guys so this is my first time posting in this forum. Ive currently decided that id like to try amateur road racing or maybe even autocross. I live in southern California so the only places i can think of are willowsprings. I have a 99 SS Camaro and have currently put the SLP Spring and shock Bilistein package on my car( have to take apart again do to rattling). My reason for posting is id like to find some events and gets some do and dont do input for a first time driver on the track. Im pretty skilled on a kart track aswell as a atv quad track, but a 3600lb vehicle is way different. Your input is much appreciated. Thank You

Check the Willow Springs event calendar to see what HPDE events are comming up. Speedventures is scheduled for May 21 & 22 at The Streets of Willow. I would recommend you start at SOW. The big track is real fast, intimidating for a novice, and potentially dangerous. At these HPDE events, they are organized into run groups from beginner through advanced, so there's a place for every level of ability. They even have short classroom sessions and critique your driving. It's all pretty relaxed and low key. I might be at the big track for the NASA race (as a spectator).

You're close to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway: http://www.chuckwallavalleyraceway.com/
Then like you said, Willow Springs and Streets of Willows. Not all HPDE groups are created equal. Look up Speed Ventures, this is a very well run and organized group with a lot of great instructors.
