Default Wanting to get started in amateur/scca

Ive been drag racing for about the past 3 years and i've always been curious about road circuit racing. Im located in Georgia and i was wondering if there were any tracks locally that held open races on weekends normally, and exactly what i need to do to get into amateur races?

try scca.com

Tracks in Georgia include Road atlanta in Gainsville and Roebling Road in Savannah...

You need to attend two scca driving schools, then run two races to get a regional license.

Firebirds and camaros run in Touring 2 class, while corvettes run in Touring 1 cklass...

Are you set on actual racing or do you just want to get out on the track? If the latter, there are lots of clubs that have driver events at local racetracks. NASA and Chin Motorsports are 2 that I belong to. Going to run at Sebring with NASA tomorrow!

For starters i would really just like to get out on the tracks and test myself. I would like to take the s-10 out when its finished and see what all needs to be worked out suspension wise. Im mostly interested with events at Road Atlanta because its the closest track to me and everyone i talk to says its the finest track around. I know a truck isnt exactly the best thing for road racing, but i figure it probably wasnt the best canidate for a LS1 and 6 speed either so i figure why not.... After the H/C package the 2600-2700 lb race weight and 420-430 rwhp should be fun to play with on a road course. Im helping out the handling a small bit with adjustable coilovers up front and a ZQ8 sway, along with a 12.5:1 steering gear box and im working on a triangulated 4 link in the rear with adjustable coilovers..plus its sitting on 275/40's all the way around, but im hashing over getting the Moser 12 bolt cut down and mini tubbing it and going with some Fikse 18x12's with 335/30's.

I'm considering buying a cheap LT1 car just to get into CMC to do some racing.
The schools are fun, but I really want to get involved competitively at some level.

I'm a bit dissapointed this section is so dead on this site. It's just not hardly active at all. Just about everybody's a drag racer or a waxer it seems! But I make up for it by spending time reading up at frrax and corner-carvers.

Edit: Not meaning to knock drag racing at all, just doesn't hold my interest as much as RR does. Though I'm entertaining somewhat setting up my car for it just so I can be racing in some form a little more often.

SCCA has nice stuff, as does NASA. NASA is a littlemore novice friendly with the HPDEs they put on but SCCA is getting better.

Before I made the jump to any type of W2W racing I would take a couple of advanced driving classes.
