97 1LE shock and spring upgrade recommendations
Purchased the car 3 months ago. Looking to make it a fun road course car.
Upgraded to C5 brakes, added 17 by 9.5 wheels all around.
Car has stock 1LE springs and Koni Yellow double adjustables.
And it sits like a 4 by 4.
Looking for a spring that will drop me about 1 inch yet still perform at the track.
Also, what is a good alternative to the Konis? prefer not to spend 1k just in shocks.
Thank you.

The Koni STR.T run a little over $300 for a whole set. Greatest bang for the buck IMO. I just bought them with BMR springs, and it dropped my ride around 1". For what I paid I'm very happy with this setup

Why do you want to replace the shocks? The closest comparable shock will be Koni sport single adjustables (single adjustable version of what you have now, rebound only). Otherwise you will NOT find a comparable shock for around the price or cheaper. Koni STR.T's won't compare to the sports or the DA's. And the other cheaper coilovers (viking or QA1s) can't hold a candle to them and are quite the downgrade. Next step up would be the UMI/Strano custom Afco coilovers or ride tech.

Reason for change: The car has 200k miles on it. I am guessing the shocks are original. I have ALL the receipts and service records from previous owner and I do not think they were ever changed.
Looking to find a good shock for a reasonable price.
May not be as good as new Koni yellows, but better than 200k mile Konis.

But let me tell you, spend the money on good shocks now and be done with it, they will be the foundation of the suspension setup, even if you have to stick with your stock springs you will get more performance out of good shocks. Dont skimp out especially if you want to build a car to race.
