I feel like I’m talking to myself in here sometimes lol. Anyways I heard about an interesting Thing that happened yesterday at the Pittsburgh autocross, stcsolo region. A celebrity showed up

Randy Pobst co-drove an STU BMW M3 owned by Andrew Donaldson. I don’t know how it happened or how they know each other. But it must have been pretty cool to see. Mr Pobst won the class with a 37.7 to Andrews 38.3

Nice to see the Pro's coming out sometimes. Good run. I see he was a few feet away from some cones, had some fun little oversteer in there.

You aren't exactly just talking to yourself. Locally John Heinricy shows up sometimes and at track days. I don't know him, though I have talked to him, he is fast. What is interesting is how AutoX guys do well on tracks, but I haven't seen the opposite to be true.

His video is interesting because he picks what first appears to be an odd line around that sweeper, but it seems he was really setting up the apex and the other cones didn't matter so much. He was a couple feet off of the apex cone, but it was a big corner to set up. AutoX is crazy where 0.5 sec is quite a lot... well drag racing it is as well!

So I did a race last Sunday in PA with the North Hills Sports Car Club. First ever autocross for me where I had to drop into 1st gear. Funny thing happened though. As I would drop into first on a super tight left hander, I’d stand on the gas a bit to get the rear to rotate, and the car would buck and chug for a split second before accelerating. I’ve noticed it doing it before on slower corners when I step on the gas hard. A guy with a ZL1 told me that the traction control is on. He said stabilitrac to be specific. Said that even in “race” mode it leaves a few of the nannies on. So I got home and asked in the boards and apparently there’s another mode (not in the manual) where you depress the button for 7 seconds and it turns everything off. Just great. I’ve been racing it for 2 years and 3 months with it on all the time lol.

There were rumors that on C5 vettes you had to press and hold for 5s... but I dont own a vette so I never cared. Though I have held the TC button down for 5s on my TA, just to be sure.

I tried it the other day. You hold the button down for about 7 seconds and both of the lights light up, but then the mode button won’t allow you to select any of the race modes. That’s supposedly when you’ve done it right.

This is true on the C5. Works on the wife's Envoy too. On my friend's 2nd gen CTSV you have to hold it for like 10 seconds.

So I raced on Sunday. Decided to turn all of the nannies off for my second run and give it a shot. OMG the car was practically undriveable. The *** end would step out every time you simply touched the gas. To be fair the tires are smoked (11 events and 120 laps) so it’s too early to draw a full conclusion. I’d like to try it again with some fresh tires on a hot day with the tires up to temp. But for now I’ll stick to race mode 5.

Had a real good battle this past Sunday with John Nemastil. The course was pretty fast but had a tight-ish slalom at the end that we both kept coning away. Neither of us had a clean run going into our last runs. Our raw times were 1 and 2 with him running 77.5's and me running 78.0's. So basically it came down to whoever could make a decent last run and make it clean. I went first and did a 78.8 and I thought for sure that it wasn't going to be enough. I watched his last run and saw a little dirt fly up way out so I knew he cooked a corner in the back, and he dialed it back a notch at the end, and crossed the line with a 78.9 giving me the win!

Here's a video of one of my earlier slalom runs. You can see the course worker running out as I pass the second cone:

Here's my in car of my last run:

That is an excess quantity of slaloms.

Yep, that's how that site is. It's pretty close to me but I've never been. Tends to munch way too many cars for autocross thanks to the proximity of the trees, and really doesn't build any good habits for national events. And at least for me I would rather take the dog to the park and drink beer on a patio with him on my off days than do that. YMMV.

And one of the dickbags that runs the events has been running an illegal wheel setup for years now. Fixes the single biggest weakness of that specific car and basically breaks the class. So it's a pretty shitty region in general.

Party pooper!!!

Who runs the illegal wheel setup? I’ve seen several cars go into the grass but nobody came close to any trees.

Next race is November 1st
