Nitto Road Race tires for street/track use?
Has anyone used the new Nitto RR track tire for street use and occasional track use?
Will driving on these tires every day be detrimental to their track performance?
I saw the article in GMHTP where they were running this tire on the street and track and logged
about 8k miles and the tires were holding up well. That was months ago.
It's time for me to buy tires again and I am considering buying Nitto RR tire and maybe a set of
kumho street tires for long trips.
I average 15k - 18k per set of steet tires and they see at most a couple of track and auto x events during
that time.
Right now I am running Michilen Pilot Sports w/ 17k miles on them and they are just about down to the
wear bars.
Any suggestions?

Hey Brandon!
I haven't seen any other information on those new Nittos except for the GMHTP article.
Maybe some more of us will use them and we can get a consensus soon of how good they are... I'll keep my ears open and let you know if I hear anything about them.

I have a buddy who has used them just as you described and loves them.
I'll point him to this thread for some direct feedback.
Only place I've seen them was at a Discount Tire. I've got 1 event weekend on mine and they are holding up very well, but I don't use them for daily useage.

I have been running these for street tires on the T/A since January. They have about 3500 miles, and still have plenty of tread. They have been autocrossed on a couple times, been to the dragstrip several times (each pass with heated tires!), and I am "rough" on the street. These tires have yet to stop amazing me. They hold 95% as well as Kuhmo Victoracers and haven't lost a bit of grip so far. I expect them to last about 8K miles.
One problem though; they are on national backorder! Dicscount Tire is out. I don't think Nitto planned on them to sell this well.

I am still using them for street tires. First, I am pretty rough on them, and have autocrossed on them several times, and been to the dragstrip several times. I do a good 4-5 second burnout before each pass at the strip. Today they have almost 9K miles but are starting to lose grip from too many heat cycles. Not bad, but they aren't like new anymore! The 2 that are on the back are bald in the center, but have tread around the outside. The front 2 are getting thin, but still have visible tread in the center and legal tread on the outside. I guess I was running too much pressure, and they wear like the drag radials. I was running 33 rear and 38 front, but am down to 28 rear and 34 front. I am going to replace them in a few weeks when new ones get here. I drove the car from Dallas to St. Louis a few days ago, and ran an autox on the Nitto's while I was there. I placed fourth in SM out of 12 cars, all of which were on Hoosier or Kuhmo race tires.
The bottom line is that I have been very happy with them.
