You can't imagine how much I would love to do exactly that ! I love to go fast and would be perfectly willing to go for a ride with Roy on the autobahn if the opportunity came up. Being afraid to know less than someone else to me is like being afraid of the Bigfoot. I've never seen one, and don't really believe there is one, so it'd be hard to be afraid of it. lol !j/k If his car will go 160 mph in 6th gear then there is a reasonable, mechanical reason why this is so. I'm waiting for the explanation . And no, a heads and cam combo is not going to accomplish this. Maybe 4.10 or 4.56 gears might do it . This would also explain why he's burnt up 2 rear ends and trannys I'm just waiting for the reason why his car will do it, and I haven't heard it yet.

www.sliverstateclassic.com

NataSS Inc on the board is running the 160? class I believe, and then moving up to the 180 class next year.

180 miles per tank at WOT, are you crazy? I rarely call BS on ls1 boards, but I have to here. On the road course, my old '98 Z28 consistantly got 7 mpg, which would only be ~98 miles with 14 gallons (our cars have 15.5 gallon tanks). On the road course, I was not wide open all the time, and the wind resistane at 160 is going to really hurt mileage. FWIW, I get 180-200 miles per tank on the street. Yes I drive fast, but not 160 for 200 miles

Ok, I figured it out, and it was actually about 140 miles. My mistake.. I exaggerated.

Roy, though, never said he did 160 in 6th gear. He was probably talking about WOT in 6th gear, which is about 130-140.

This is going 160+ mph for about 50 miles, 130 mph for the next 20, and 105 mph exactly ( on cruise control ) for the last 20 miles. I never left 5th gear the entire race. Our cars get absolutely amazing gas mileage for the power they put out, but if you're running wide open or close to it, then forget about it. Your fuel economy goes out the window

If anyone on here has any questions about the SSCC, e-mail me or NataSS. We ran last May's event and will be going down together to run next May's event. This race is a "must do" It's not that much money comparatively speaking, and is an adrenaline rush that will last a month Picture 150-200 other guys, all gearheads just like you, all in fast cars ( well most of them anyway, they DO have a 95 mph class for the Honda's ) You hang out and party and get to know each other for a few days ..... and then you all get to go to "the perfect road" and drive as fast as hell .... or as fast as you dare ..... for 90 freakin' miles. Then you all drive back, eat free primerib and drink yourselfs silly and compare war storys !

The Silver State Classic has been a dream of mine since I first read about it in the late 80's. I haven't made it yet, but have $$$ set aside and a vacation request in to run a similar event in Big Bend Texas next April ( http://www.bborr.com ).

If anyone has any questions shoot me an email. I am planning on running in the 130 or 140 class next May. Because of the safety equipment I have on the car I am going to fight for a 180 tech speed so I can give the car a shakedown run before I step up to the big dog classes. But since I will be considered a rookie driver that might not work. I just got back from the SSCC on monday. We ran in an 02 C5 with a cat back system on it and trans, oil and diff. coolers on it. We ran it in the 150mph class with a 165 tech speed. Autobahn driving is one thing (been there, done that) but when your on highway 318 doing 165mph on a road that is no wider than 21ft, no gaurd rails, unpredictable road and weather conditions, medical help is a minimum of 15 mintues away by life flight and then at least another 20 or 30 minutes to carve you out of the car and my personal favorite.....animals on the roadway!

As far as the fuel issue. In May I ran in the 145mph class with a 165 tech speed. at the end of the run we had a little over a 1/16th of a tank left. I think what might have caused the large fuel consumption was some of the wind we were fighting. But last weekend we finished with a little more, I feel because we didnt have as much in the way of drastic throttle movement. But trying to run 180 miles on one tank at WOT....aint happenin, and I will have to see video to believe it or be in the car when it happens. Not sayin it isnt impossible but would be tough to do.

Well, cruising is entirely different. I set he cruise, with the top down @ 115 for 78 miles, and got a tad over 17 mpg. once you get over 120, it plummets drastically!! I can get 30 cruising @ 80, but throw in a little slowing down and speeding back up, and it goes down to 21-23. I've gont 135-150 ofr 20 miles staright, and it took almost a quater tank, so 180 miles at WOT, even in 6th, um hard to believe.
