maximum tire width
Hey guys I was wondering; what is the widest wheel/tire combo you can put on a late model camaro, without getting tire rub, I want the back wider than the front: also what backspacing I would use? on 17" wheels

Re: maximum tire width
Without doing a crapload of work, 17x11s on the rear with 315s. The same combo will also work on the front with a little bit of rubbing at full lock. As far as backspaceing goes, I think it was something like 7.25 or so. Better double check that figure as I'm not 100% sure on it.

The norm is an 11" rim, and a 315 tire. For the 18s, a 295 is the biggest we can run before a 335. FWIW, we ran a 325/285 split on my car before Michelin discontinued the 325s.

Re: maximum tire width
hmmm would you have to do some beating of the inner fender to get a 335 on the back? 295 fits the fronts without rubbing? I'm looking at some 18X10's for the fron and 18X11's for the rear... Wanna know if I can make them fit very easily...

Re: maximum tire width
I'm pretty sure it might take a little more than a "little" hammer work to clear the 335s on the 11 inch wheels. I ran some 335s on a couple of 17x10.5 wheels. Yea, I know the 335s need at least a 11 inch rim. I got em cheap and used them as a Go-No/Go gage before I spent real money on a set of 315s. Anyways, I actually got the 335s to fit with out rubbing except on extremely bad bumps. But I was giving up a .5 inch to 11 inch rims. I think you would have to trim the jounce bumpers, roll the fenders, and you might have to run a set of LCAs that are narrower than the stock ones. I was also not lowered at the time, so that might put a monkey in the wrench for me. I'm pretty sure it can be done, I'm going to try it when I can come up with enough money to buy a couple more 17x10.5s and get the ones I have now widened to 11-11.25 inches. It would take perfect backspacing and offset to work. With 335s there would be no room for error. I wouldn't try it unless you have some time and money to burn. JMO

I am buying a used set of Viper rear 335/35/17's in the near future to try out back on my car, I will post up when I get this done!
I have seen the 335/35/17 on the rear of a few cars and it can be done!
