Default V.I.R. this December, prepping car.

I've signed up for a Chinmotorsports instruction/track day at VIR this December. A buddy of mine (just finished Skip Barber Race School), and myself (ham-fisted local strip, Sportsman drag racer) will be sharing track time in my car.

The car is nowhere near roadrace prep. We're gonna pussyfoot around the roadcourse and feel our way around with the following setup:

Front Suspension: Bone Stock
Rear Suspension: BMR Extreme Sway Bar, Spohn LCA's
Spohn Adjustable Tq Arm is going on right now.
Drivetrain: Spec III, HD DS, Moser 9inch posi, 4.11's.

I'm going to purchase a set of Nitto 555R II's for the event, some cheapo rotors, and some good brake pads. Some Earl's stainless brake lines are also going on the car right now.

Rev Limiter is set at 6900, with the shift light coming on at 6600rpms. I'm thinking I'll keep things below 6000 for the duration of the event.

For safety, a Wolfe 6pt roll bar is going in and we're gonna get a harness.

Any advice on anything else I should do to prep for this event? If I like it (I'm sure I will), I'll probably invest in getting the car more roadrace worthy.

Wish me luck.

That rear sway bar is gonna make the car loose ... real loose. You would be better off throwing a stocker back on there.

What brake pads? Carbotech Panthers are a really good pad for fun day events.

A complete flush of the brake fluid is highly recommended.

Run 7qts of motor oil. Now everyone will say things like frothing oil and loss of HP ... IF it is true, it is better than a spun #5/6 rod bearing. Trust me on this one .... and check the level after every session. Compression braking will gobble oil in these stock PCV systems.

4.11 gears is a lot of gear for a road course. Short shift it a lot.

Listen to your instructors, leave your ego at the gate and have a blast ...

Trust me, we'll be the "Slow, Loud Guys."

I have no intention on pushing the car anywhere near its limits.
Will the car be downright dangerous with the BMR drag swaybar? I don't have the stocker anymore.

learn the track!!! are running the full course? north course? or south course???

learn the track, turn in,apex, and turn out and you should be fine...

Where did your buddy do the S.B school at? I learned a lot from them!!

If interested I have my "in car" race of the full course at VIR when I ran the Formula Dodge series there... could help out in learning the track!!

Hey thanks!
My bud went to Summit Point for Skip.

Unfortunately, my car won't be ready for the event (replacing rear end, plus other various items). I'll be postponing attendance to another Chinmotorsports track day- perhaps at Sebring.

In the mean time, we'll be doing EnduranceKarting next week - 6hr event at Moroso in West Palm Beach.

Thanks for the heads up! Is your in-car footage digital?

Watch the Oak Tree turn. Trust me, you'll know it when you find it. If you miss it, you'll be trying your luck in the grass. It's tight and the apex is NOT where you think it is, it's late, really late.

Have fun! It's a beautiful track.

I've seen the one lap vid posted on Skip, and I think I know which turn you're talking about. It caught my eye as a turn which would give me trouble. Actually my buddy spotted it on the vid and told me to watch for it.

As mentioned above, I won't be making VIR due to a mechanical setback.
Hopefully next year!
