Question Road Racing Brakes?

What's the least I will need to get me through a day of racing at Road America as far as brakes go. Money's tight so I can't go crazy right now, but I know the stock **** will not make it through the weekend.

Well the what I would say the Min would be a new set of front rotors and race pads. Hawk, CarbonTech, KFP, there are some other But Im not familar with them. Flush the brake fluid, I used Valvoline Synpower(inexpensive) and didnt have an issue. Then go out and enjoy. John

Billingsley has some pretty nice Aerospace kits that are reasonably priced. A heckuva lot cheaper than the Baer kits.

He's right. Look into Carbotech pads (call larry at www.carbotecheng.com). They are expensive pads (not your $20 napa specials), but you'll thank me once you try them. I have run several sets and love them.

The Billingsley Website also shows an Aerospace Street kit. I also noticed Wholesale Direct has a GP special on 4 Brembo rotors (slotted , crossdrilled and zinc washed ) with Hawk's pads for 399.00 . It's good for another week. I'm not sure if the Aerospace Street kit will do well in road racing .

You misread that Wholesale Direct special. 4 Brembos for $399 does not include pads. The pad pkg is with "Power Stop" rotors. I'd just go ahead and buy a "blank" Brembo rotor for cheaper and not risk the drilling causing cracks, particularly in race conditions.

It doesn't specify which pads are being offered, but I think one could reasonably assume they're HPS, which are not what one wants when hammering around Road America.

And the Aerospace kits are all drag racing brakes, never to be used on a road course.

If these are the Axxis pads that are semi metallic, I hated them and went back to Hawke. Otherwise, if I am misled, which pads specifically?

How do BAER rotors compare to these brands you guys are talking about? I've seen a front pair of rotors for 500-600 bucks. Just wondering.

My buddy paid all that money for a set of Baer rotors and they lasted all of one day on a race course. Cracked and warped , needless to say he was a little pissed.

I've used Carbotech's on my 99 T/A at Pocono all day and loved them. Beleive me when I say I was beating the F**K out of the car and the stock brakes w/ the Carbotech's never gave up.

I thought Brembo blanks are actually what GM OEM rotors are....
