Default Running 18s for road racing/autox?

How many of you run 18s for road racing/track/autox? Just curious.

18s for = lower profile tires, larger rotors/calipers (bbk)

I'm running some 315/30R18 Azenis on Z06 rear wheels on all 4 corners of my C4, but only because I have to (Azenis don't come in a 315R17). The extra sidewall of the 17's can help put the power down, and most all brakes fit under 17's. There is no real advantage to 18's, and they cost (in some cases a lot) more.

Depending on the wheel choice 18's will also add extra unsprung weight.

I lost 6 lbs per wheel going to SSR competition wheels.

Your 18's weigh 14 lbs each? Doubtful.

Original / stock / factory 17's weigh about 19 - 20 lbs each.

FYI - I'd have no problem believing that your wheels are six pounds lighter than the typical cheapo aftermarket 17 wheel though.

*sigh*

I have.

My cheapo Chinese 17x11s weigh 28lbs.
My old Corvette C4 17x9.5 sawblades weighed a little less than 20 lbs.
My stock 16x8s weighed 19lbs.
IIRC a friends 10 spoke 17x9 SS wheel weighed about 21 lbs.

Are these weights with the tire on the rim or just the rim? I just got 1 new 10 spoke rim and shipping weight was 10 lbs.

Those are just wheel weights. Your 10 spoke 17x9 does not weigh only 10 lbs. If it did, it would be quite possibly one of the lightest 17x9 wheels ever.

the only good reason to run 18s imo is for a 355 (14") bbk - otherwise save your money and go with 17s (13" max rotors)

I realize what it said, but the lightest f-body 16x8 is 17 lbs. How could a larger and wider wheel be 7 lbs lighter? How could GM make wheels lighter than Fiske, CCW, or Bogart? Why would anyone pay for those wheels if 10 spokes are that much lighter?

10 spokes are not not 10 pound wheels. They are about 19 pounds each.

That was so the company who shipped them can save a little shipping dough...
