Default Rod Ends On The Street

I am thinking about using rod ends on the street. Have any of you done that? If so, did you have any probs? There is a place that sells rod end boots to keep the dirt out, so I'm not worried about that issue. Did you have any recurrent alignment issues, cracking, bending, etc., ?

I've been running LGM's rod end LCAs for over a year and had zero problems with them.

A quality rod end will be as quiet as a poly bushing.

Get a product called DGF 123 at a NAPA to lubricate the rod end surface.

Mitch is correct about the noise.

I ran HErb Adams LCA's and PHB with rod ends on all of the ends for about 3 years on a 3rd gen that I had and they made zero noise. I'm now running BMR LCA's and PHB with rod ends and they have been noisy from the day they were new. THe obvious difference here is the rod ends themselves and it was a big difference. But, they have worked well and I've had no trouble with them at all (even driving in rain and snow)....

GOod luck!!!

What about using rod ends in place of the sealed factory balljoints? How often do you guys lube those rod ends?

I don't understand where you are describing. Can you give an example?

The only ball joints I can think of are on the upper and lower A-Arms. Not sure how a heim joint would apply ...

Sorry, brain fart. Tie rods, could use rod ends in place of the tie rods, safely on the street, with railroad tracks and potholes?

I've never seen maximum strength specs on tierods, but many rod ends will handle 20,000 lbs or more before failure..I suspect it would not be a problem, I think the Baer traker bump steer kit is this way....

Oh, I see you live in Mansfield ...

It could be done. However, the tie rod ends really don't see that much force applied.

The primary purpose behind a heim joint on the rear is to allow the diff to articulate without bind.

You are probably right on the issue of tie rods not seeing that much stress. It's just that I have a car with the 1LE package, and I was looking for more tuning ability. I'm not real certain on how easy it is to adjust camber and caster with these suspension pieces. From what I can see, they are pretty much fixed.I was just noticing that the OEM equipment has no ability to be lubed, also.
I was looking at refining the suspension, and figured that I might investigate the idea.I would like for the car to have some more negative camber, for better handling, since it sits the way it came out of the factory.

You could probably get -1 the way it sets.

For more, you'd have to either go with aftermarket A-Arms or slot the lowr A-Arm mounts. that could give you another -0.5 degrees I would guess.

You need to come and join us at road courses. We are going to TWS this weekend and Hallett (near Tulsa) in Septemeber and Motorsport Ranch in Cresson in November.

I need to do that, it sounds like alot of fun. I was at Bobby Archer Motorsports yeesterday, and the gal behind the counter was talking about Hallet. I was talking to her about getting an SCCA license, and what I needed to do,to get one. I'm not familiar with any of the raceways around here. She was also talking about some ranch that has a road course. What is TWS?

Motorsport Ranch. It's between Ft. Worth and Granbury on 377. Lots of fun.

TWS is Texas World Speedway. A few of us from the area are going down there this weekend.

I have a 2002 1LE, and also live in Mansfield.

Where abouts? I live just outside the Mansfield city limits. We should meet up sometime.

LOL I went there, because they had the Long Acre tire pressure guage, I was looking for. I haven't seen any cute looking women there yet. I had noticed, that I've never seen anybody else in his place, so I wondered how he was staying open. Am I not privvy to something here? Are there any better local places, that have better prices in the Ft Worth area?

I just installed my LCA brackets and Heim/heim alumin LCA's yesterday expecting an increase in noise. To my suprise there was no extra noise at all. I did notice some when i put in an APHR, but i'm working on shaving the surface I believe it is banging against.

BTW, LG motorsports was super helpful (on a saturday afternoon) in helping to answer my install questions on the brackets. THANKS GUYS!! FYI....installing the brackets isn't quite as easy as you think it'd be, but it still wasn't bad.

Anywho, back to the question....I have to put some miles on them, but so far the rod ends seen like the way to go!

same here... my rod-ends are actually less noisy than the polyurethane ones I had before that made squish-squish noises.
