Default Dumb Q? TA vs Modded SVT Focus

Ha ha ha ha, Alright here it goes.

I have a buddy that has an '03 SVT Focus. After Handing him his A$$ at the drags he is under the impression that he will whoop me in the bends. Here is the Plan. Im pretty much stock suspension beside what you see below, and the 1LE 32mm SB, and EiBach pro-Kit (stock shocks). He is claiming with Sway bars, and his current springs (Tien) he can pull away from me in the bends and/or be able to hang on my bumper.

Personally I know ill pull front him nasty like in the straights and I will be able to pull just a bit in the bends. I know those Focus'es are very well balanced and about 1000 lighter than my car, but I also have 200more whp.

What do you guys think will happen. In a nice large Auto-X track like Willow Springs California.

Your shocks are going to kill you. A set of Bilsteins or Konis would really help. Also, a good alignment will make a big difference. Tires don't hurt either. Real tires would make a huge difference (more than anything else actually).

Who actually wins will probably come down to who is a better driver.

I would think it depends on a few things. From my experience, it seems Auto X is not about how much power you have but more about weight and suspension. Also, the most important difference will be driver ability. If you have never Auto Xed and the other driver has done it alot, he will win or vice versa. However, if the course is big with alot of straights I would think your chances of winning would go up alot and my even be favorable. Some more experienced Auto Xers will probably have some better input for you though.

Yeah he just has the stock SVT shocks.

I have some Bridgestone crappy ones. Tires, Sumitomo 255 outback and 245 somethings up front which will be the Cooper Zeons pretty soon.

P.S. Neither of us have any experience Auto-Xing. We have messed around in the Canyons but thats about it.

You should murder him on a high-speed road coarse but (and I hate to say this) on an Auto-X that Focus may give you a run.

Agree with those comments, just make sure you are the better driver, and a little improvement in the shocks department would go a long way....

That also depends on just how "tight" the autocross course is as well.

Get the shocks and some subframe connectors. I just got back from Willow Springs. I killed the Cobras in the bends. I love turn #8.

If you ever want to get into auto-x and actually fit into a class, I would not get subframes just yet. Currently, subframe connectors put you into SM or CP, and neither is going to be pretty in a street car. They might be legal next year in ESP, but that is still up in the air.

I think you'll both handle the same IMOA. And like you said destroy him in the straights. Actually, what width tires do you have??? That goes into consideration bigtime also. The more rubber on the ground the better.

something wider than a 245 does make a difference. Made a huge difference to me.
