Good read and very true. HP means nothing if your lines, apex, pushing, understeering, etc. are not dialed in. Humility is key especially on a track you've never run.

Great videos and descriptions...

I went through the same process, although I'm sure it probably took longer to get through my head.

SouthFL - I know exactly what you're talking about; although for me, the rx8 was an upgrade in power. I came from a 1.6L Miata to the RX8. However, BOTH cars are momentum cars; I know that well.

I did a lapping day at Pacific Raceways awhile back and was able out out-brake and thus stay ahead of much-more-powerful cars. Was very rewarding.

I'm approaching a decision in life to go from my RX8 to the CSTV (having 3 kids would require a larger back seat. Thus, I'm looking for the most-satisfying sedan I can find). Do you think you'd have a hard time adjusting back to the higher-HP cars, such as the V, or another low rpm, heavy, torque-monster?

Thoughts?

Thanks much.

Darin

PS - Here's me holding off a 300hp + Escort Cosworth, and a 911.

First off, I've driven the LS6 powered CTS-V and was very impressed with its dynamics for its size.
Also, the LSX series of engines is not exactly a low rpm torque monster (though the LS2 and LS3 have a much more useable torque band) that you think it would be, as these engines are unique in that they are screamers for their displacement and will turn some pretty decent revs, with peak hp high in the rpm spectrum due to the very good head design of these engines.

Try PMing Chef to see what his take on tracking the car is like.

One of my favorite features of these cars is the T56 tranny, which you can really beat the crap out of, though many import guys complain about it because of its over all ham fisted feel to it. It just needs to be muscled and will reward you with solid shift action in return.

Definately worth a drive to see if you like it.

Good luck.

I've seen a lot of Chef's car thru Google. Very impressive!

re: Low-revving...sorry -just, well...considering the engine i'd be coming from...well..you know.

If I pick up the V in the next few months (Depends on the little blue line ) I'll post-up!

Thanks again!

I know, but is that Cossie one of the Sun International imported/federalized cars? (Or is it not even street legal/federalized/registered??)

The owner trailered the car to the track; said it hasn't been licensed in years (although at one time it was). That's all I recall, sorry.

Thanks anyway. I would guess that it was a Sun car then. Maybe once he modded it somewhat it could not be street registered anymore?? They might be EXTREMELY draconian with the "grey market" imported/federalized cars, especially out there (as compared to Texas, or the southern states).

circle of traction. you only have so much grip to the tires, and you have to share it for multiple duties. the goal is to use 100% of the tires grip but share it w/ stopping, turning, braking.
trail braking goes like this:
100% braking, 0% turning.
90% braking, 10% turning.
80% braking, 20% turning.
do this till you get to corner apex where it will be 0% braking and 100% turning. at this point, swap the brake for the gas. once you hit track out it will be 100% gas, and 0% turning.

usinga rear brake bias valve wil allow you to tune the sensitivity of the rear brakes and how well the brakes will allow the car to rotate. when the car feels like its turning around a center point at the trans tunnel between the front seats, its rotating correctly.

not all corners are a trail brake corner.

Nice video and a good looking line. It was a Chin event this past weekend, wasn't it? I'll be there instructing with them on December 22nd & 23rd. Are you going to make it to that one?

Here is a lap at Sebring from this past July in my 94 Trans Am. Click here.

Very nice.

The biggest difference I see between our lines is that at T10, T13 and T15, I'm turning in sooner and apexing sooner so as not to lose momentum and power through with what little torque I have on tap (compared to your machine).

Yes, it was the Chin event this past weekend. Beautiful weather. I won't be at the Dec. event, but I'm sure we'll run into each other next year.

Which camera mount did you get? I have a gorillapod wrapped around the roll bar on the C5, but have been wanting a stickypod...

I have no cage to attach to, so I made one by cannibalizing a standard tripod (using the swivel head), drilling a hole in my ski pass thru (easily replaceable panel) and bolting it on there.

I dont know if I road race correctly, but Id say Im pretty good. for a trans that wasnt downshifting properly, torque arm bolts coming loose. bad front tires, bad alignment, etc..

The Murcielago there couldnt pass me up!!!

I used to race 4 cycle karts so I know all about momentum racing. I'm still trying to make it to the track again in my car. :wall: I'm finally putting a canton pan in my car so hopefully I'll get some money soon enough to get back to the track. With my 1st track outting I was the fastest car in my group, and I was running down a bmw m-coupe on slicks with my 100% stock supsension camaro on KDW's
