Arrow 10 bolt Eaton Super Duty Posi

I was curious just how strong a 10 bolt Eaton Super Duty Posi Unit really is? Do they strengthen a 10 bolt enough to withstand a heavy torque load? Or like most other 10 bolts do they self destruct?

Well when you upgrade the weakest link, something else becomes the weakest link and breaks, then you upgrade that. Pretty soon you've got a strong diff, strong axles, etc. Then you break the ring gear--no upgrading that.

IMO that Auburn won't break, you've got the diff upgraded. From that point on you'll just be replacing every weak link until you get to the one that has no upgrade, which is the ring and pinion.

I just talked to a tech guy at auburn yesterday and he said that a "pro series" possi for a 7.6 could stand 500 rwhp.... The part he gave me was #542046. I have the moser axles in my car curently but, I DON'T have $3000 for a 12blt or 9".

Anyone running this?

Hey omcar, about how much power are you putting to that rear end set up you have?

I've put over 570 rwhp from a big block to a NON pro series Auburn. It was an 8.5 though so it's not a direct comparison.

I've also broken a non pro series Auburn in an 8.2 rear, one of the spider gears broke, I put a gear out of a stock open diff in it.

Its not the diff or axles its the RING AND PINION, you just get lucky sometimes and break either the diff or axles and give your ring and pinion a break...oh wait they get chewed up by the chuncks of metal. This is no longer a beaten horse..its done been burried. No one can say it will hold the only way to find out is put it in and give it hell. But most likely something will break in that 10 bolt, if not your one of the lucky ones..

Super slow,

What rear end set up are you running? The ring and pinion break because there is only a few teeth at a time touching? Or because the thickness?

I use a moser 9" w/ trutrac and 4.11s. The thickness of the gears and just the size of them is the problem. You can put a 10 bolt ring inside of a 9" ring gear.... Youll have alot of people say theyre 10 bolt holds up but its just luck. Its not just a launch that can break them, upshifts and just pure power can shatter them. Some people have had them shatter going into third and that can possible lock up the rear and kiss your car goodbye. I was in the same situation with money, But somehow the good lord shined his wallet upon me and I got one from Bob at EPP. IF you cant afford it right off the bat which is like most of us, buy it in sections, get the housing, then axels and if you cant afford the most expensive part the center sections pick up a junk yard center untill you can afford a better unit.

I have had 10 bolts in my last 3 cars, an '84 Monte Carlo SS with a built 350 that I raced for 10 years, a '95 formula that I raced for 5 years and my current '01 formula which I've bracket raced since 8/00. The posi was the only issue.
I do routine maintenance on the rear/trans as I do with oil changes etc.
Maybe I'm lucky.
