They have a lot of potential. I just hate working on them in fbodies esp in regards to headers. Hard to find a tuner for them too

Cork worked but was much more sensitive to over torquing

I've never had a problem with a cork or rubber gasket. Don't be an idiot when tightening them down.

Gen2 LT1 sucks, but so does LS1 these days too.

No point in arguing over them anymore since both are old news. New motors like the DI LT1 with simple boltons make NA power that LS1 and 2nd Gen LT1s struggle to make with expensive internal mods, while stil being daily drivable with good manners and warranties.

Long story short, stop arguing about whose the fastest runner in the marching band when the track team is already out practicing .

Troof. I liked my 95 T/A alot. No.. it was not a speed demon, but it sounded mean as hell with the 4" Mufflex catback on it.

Well i bet you surprise a pile of mustangs the way it sits....even some new ones.

Cork gaskets sucked. If you put it together and it didn't leak that did not mean it wasn't going to leak. Rubber meant you could put it together and it wasn't going to leak.

Since the 5th gen and S197 5.0 are a driver's race, at least according to you, I'd bet he surprises a pile of Camaros too.

And for a few pages ago, that a base LT1 can't run 13's.

I never had a bone stock base model run 13's, but for fun I took a raggedy (not churching it up) 1993 Z28 auto with 2.73 gears to Beech Bend. It went 14.07. Then the muffler fell off and went 14.6 lol! Street tires and bone stock. Just a very ragged daily driver for when I was extremely broke. Fun times though.

With that setup you're going to need all the torque you can get to carry the car with a 2.73

My turd went 13.9 when I got it beat to hell with 125k, bone stock besides a flowmaster which has been known to actually flow worse then a stock LT1 muffler .

It was welded on the I-pipe with the worse clumpy welds I had ever seen, and had a resistor spliced with electrical tape inline with the IAT sensor so it ran rich. No solder or crimps, just wrapped the wire around the leads and taped them up...typical LT1 owner **** LOL.

I raced a guy with a lightning with my LT1 when it was just a few bolt ons, and he could not believe I beat him. For what ever reason. He was very surprised, as we're a few other people I raced with it. I never had it at the track though, really wish I knew what it would trap.

And yes agreed cork gaskets did not last. Usually they had been sitting on a shelf for 20 years and would be junk out of the box lol. You could use them just pick up 2 because you were probably going to really visit it. And dealing with the oil pan in a tight spot was the worst lol

When my 95 auto was bone stock I ran an 01L and lost 3 different times. My nose was at his door all the way into the triples. Went 14.1 @ 97 on a 2.1 60ft mid summer.
