i can imagine the conversation going like this:

"let drop a 400hp v8 in the CTS."
"how are we going to strengthen it to handle the extra power?"
"give it a 6-lug hub setup."
"you don't want to upgrade the rear end?"
"nah bruh.... Getrag. it'll hold."
"We'll just put 3 levels of soft rubber bushings to support it"
"The base model drive shaft is the real weak point."
"Yeah, let's put in a non-serviceable two piece with a center bearing supported by a thin rubber ring."
"Word"
"Oh, and the motor mounts. How can we stop vibrations? We've never been able to do that before."
"Let's try these hydraulic filled sacks of heat susceptible rubber and put them right under the exhaust manifolds."
"Genius!" *high fives exchanged*

my plan for "stage 1" performance mods are:
OBX headers w/ high flow cats
muffler deletes
'homemade' k&n intake setup
ported stock throttle body
dyno/street tune

5 1/2 years lol.
it's almost there though. setup changed about 4 times mid build that's why it's taking forever lol.

finally got all my parts together to finish the build, just waiting for the temps to go up. getting old, hate working in the cold lol.

well if i lived closer i'd come over and verbally assault you until you got your lazy/fat butt out there and finished it.

then promptly call 'dibs' for the first ride in it.

haha it's not that far a ride.
got some wiring to finish up in the cobalt for the nitrous and pre-turbo meth to get that thing on the dyno next saturday (hoping for 550ish boost only, 650whp on spray), then it's back to working on the trans am. Thankfully I don't have anyone else's car to work on anymore so now I'll finally have time to work on my own. got stuck in 10 other people's projects over the last 2 years which severely limited my time to my own cars.
hell even the cobalt sat for almost a year before I got it back up and running.

trans am is getting there, all that's left is:
power and ground to holley efi
power and grounds to fuel pump relays
front brake lines
bolt the converter to the flexplate, install drive shaft, fill trans
bolt in front coilovers
bolt what's left of the dash back in and seats.
weld in door bars and tabs for the harness
then it's time to rock and roll.

A mechanic friend did the install today, finishing it up tomorrow......

Got a situation tho, he said the stock exhaust is hitting everywhere. Any ideas to fix this outside of letting the exhaust hang??

yea apparently the entire heatshield on top of the resonator was hitting the driveshaft..... removed it (for now) and there's now plenty of room.

then it's hitting the 8.8 housing on the driver side and the one "lower" mounting bolt on the passenger side.

she sure is purty tho

It looks like you have the resonator replaced with either an H or X (can't tell which). It's possible that could have slightly changed an angle of that exhaust line. Either way, the 8.8 is a wider setup than stock.

Also, your car was completely bone stock.
