Ok,Commodore rear hump LS1 sump, 9 litre oil capacity with the big water cooled cooler which is worth mentioning is mounted up quite high behind my seat-could that be an issue? I used Penrite 10w 40 semi synthetic oil, it was running about 60psi oil pressure or a bit more when thrashing along, but I did notice the first practice run we did after about 5 minutes of going hard oil pressure started to drop and was starting to get near or below the magic figure of 10 psi per 1000rpm. We had to stop for another reason and when we got going again after 10-15 minutes the pressure was running higher again. The oil temp stays real cold, not sure of the figure but the gauge only just gets off the mark. I did make a mistake where the sender unit for oil pressure gauge is taken, I put it in the provision on the oil cooler adapter block down by filter, it seems obvious now I should have had it coming off the top rear of the engine which is where the turbo feeds come off, **** I hope my turbos got oil! Not on much of an angle once up on the plane,not an issue for others running LS engines.
Are you having to pump the oil high to this cooler ? Do you have any logs of oil pressure ? or only occasional glance at a gauge ?
Oil temperature ? you say cold....exactly how are you measuring and where ? Is it actually in the oil flow somewhere decent ? Or at a dead end ? Before or after the cooler ?
Yes the cooler is highishO, sits about my shoulder height behind my seat, no logs of pressure but always watch it and it normally sits about 60psi or so, but when it shat out the pressure slowly dropped probably 20psi, then zero at idle.Oil temperature is taken in the bottom of sump, wouldn't have gone past 180-200 degrees max
But when I had to go to a remote mount filter due to my turbos down there...the only way I could maintain an oil gallery no smaller than those within the engine...ie 1/2" diameter was with -12 hoses.
-10 fittings can step down to 7/16" or less at their smallest, despite what any actual hose measurements may be
-10 would have been easier though -12 is ******* big lol.
Ultimately unless you know for sure you've always had good pressure...good oil...oil temps were fine ( ie datalogs proving all this ) it will be hard to know why it went wrong.
And if you arent logging these....time to start.
If the oiling system appears fine....could there be an issue with the stuff bolted to the crank ? ie whatever drives the boat ? an imbalance or something there could cause strange problems.
Bit of a crapshoot without logging oil pressure. I can't imagine the cooler is the issue. Your pump setup sounds fine... but who knows without those logs.
Might consider an accumulator. Then log pressure. Easy to install and not very expensive.
Ok I will talk to the tuner about setting something up on the Link Storm ECU. I might have to spend the $$$$ and set up a dry sump system, although plenty of LS3's running CX class all wet sumps

Your ecu has onboard logging, really it should have been logging
And pretty sure it can also offer a safety based on oil pressure ( although that would likely kill the engine to help prevent major damage
Do you know where your oil level is when the engine is running? Could you be having windage issues? Beating the oil into a frothy mess with the crank hanging down in it? Do you run the OEM windage shield? Sucking up foamy oil is super hard on bearings...
Crank scraper might help a little too. If the crank isn't hanging down into the oil...

Yes I run the windage tray. Not sure of level while it's running. It did blow oil out breathers severely, oil all over rear of boat, that why I ask if the shitty rings couldn't handle 7psi and started blowing bad, could that hold a heap if oil up and then start pushing it out breathers?
