This is why you usually don't see any signs of rubbing on the ring lands even tho a piston might rock over .030.

So now the question is what do I do? I have a good crank, rods, a block with splayed 4 bolt mains that needs to be honed.

Engine shop said it would cost 5 to 6k possible to get the whole thing back together.

Any suggestions? I am planning on using the car purely for going to shows/cruises and going to the drag strip a couple times a year. I wanted to go boosted route but with only one tuner in the area it kind of scares me.

If you want to go FI then go forged. If you are wanting to stay N/A then get another set of hyper-u's. What's going to be done on the rebuild for 5 or 6K?

The good parts I have left are forged (crank & rods). For 5 to 6k it would be basically everything new.
Sonic test block
Pistons
Lifters
valve springs
bearings (All)
seals/gaskets
lifters timing set gears/chain
honing block and repairing the one cylinder head
assemble full motor

There was close to 2k in parts that I needed once I added them up.

I am really just looking for peoples thought on what they would do since I am saving up some money.

Nope I removed and would be re-installing it.

What I would do is have the machine shop do the short block, repair the head and you do the rest.

That's kind of what I was thinking.. I'll have to get a quote from him on how much it would be to do just the short block.
