Folks, I have an update pertaining to the installation of the 1x Vortec distributor. These distributors have the hold down clamp pinched to hold the body in a pre-determined timing setting that does not allow the distributor to be rotated. This often places the sensor plug up against the car’s firewall making plug installation impossible.

Here’s the fix:

Pry off the pinched clamp and use a standard hold down clamp. While the crank is at #1 top dead center, both valves closed (compression stroke), drop the distributor in a few drive teeth off. Then rotate the distributor body until the rotor looks exactly as in the pic below in relation to the sensor window. Plug still not clocked right? Try another gear tooth location. So long as the rotor looks like in the pic at #1 TDC, it will work. Lock it down with your standard hold down clamp.

The PCM really doesn’t know or care how the distributor is clocked so long as the rotor passes through the sensor window at the correct time relative to #1 TDC.
