LT1 to SBC swap guys
so I'm goin to be in the process of swapping in a sbc into a 4th gen. car was originally an lt1 car which is why I'm going this route. its track only and on a budget. my question the only thing I haven't found from research. LT1 heads are angle plug. my vortecs are straight. will stock lt1 headers fit or will I have clearance issues.

I'm in the middle of this swap and have been taking a bunch of pictures, I did start a build thread somewhere but only made one post and have been planning on going back and updating it. But, to answer your question, the hooker LT1 headers I picked up, clear my plugs on my vortec headed sbc. I'm in the middle of building the plug wires at the moment, I'll post up some pics.

Standard LT1 headers will bolt right up to a SBC head, I went with a set of the ebay stainless headers and they fit perfect. The only thing i did was got a set of quality LT1 style exhaust gaskets to make sure they seal good and I haven't had a issue in 3 years now. I also went with the 2 bolts on the motor mounts, I replaced the stock rubber inserts in the mounts with a poly set and its been perfect. Im making 530 at the crank and haven't had any issues.... I dont take my car to the track, Its a Sunday cruiser and something i drive to work now and then lol. Here is my build thread, Ive got lots of pics and info there

They are shoehorned in there a bit huh. I should have a little more room. Delete blower motor and ac box plus going to manual brakes. How's distributor access? Kinda thinking of going to some kind of front distributor drive.

Its not horrible, I definitely have more room under the hood of my car now than I did with the stock LT1. I went with a crank trigger on my setup just because you can not get the distributor out with the engine in the car, and if you could get it out it would not be very much fun trying to do it lol. With the crank trigger all the distributor is doing is throwing spark, I can change the cap and rotor in about 5 minutes if I need to put a new one in. Blower motor delete and manual brakes would free up a lot of space under the hood also
