I blew my LS1 on the track, and did just this in the rebuild. 383 Stroker kit, Molly's Forged internals, Ported Fast 92 intake and larger Throttle body, paired with ported stock heads by Advanced Induction with a matched custom cam and I hit 540 fwhp/507 fwtq. You can definitely feel the difference over stock.....just need drag radials now to hook.

I actually agree. That being said, it would get its stinking doors blown off by a 5.3 on 5-8psi. And the 5.3 would probably drive better, get better mpg, cost the same or less, and have more usable power over a broader spectrum. I know, I know, I'm missing the point of the article.....or am I?

I don't think so; you just brought it back to stark, raving REALITY! Because the 5.3 is a good all around size for what GM intended: a small displacement V8 that would do a decent job in a 1/2-ton P/U, which it does!
Even though you were talking about a boosted engine....lol

Well no, its not about being boosted. Its simply a way to make power on a stock bottom end motor, or aftermarket rotating assembly, fairly reliably. So in that comparison it really is apples to apples....though some will say it isnt. But if you spend $5k on a motor (upgrades over stock), its $5k no matter how you spend it. If one $5k combo makes 500, and another 650, which is better?

Obviously you can boost a car and work the kinks out, then build a new motor to drop in.
Both have their pros and cons. I would have liked to see a rough cost outlined in the article though. I'm lazy and don't want to look up all of the parts myself

No doubt you can make great power with a stock engine and boost ( I have a stock 6.0 running 10lbs) But I also have a boosted 408 that will eat it for lunch. 700ftlbs at a little over 3,000rpms. Nothing wrong with more cubic inches with or without boost and when you need more torque a longer stroke is the ticket.
