VIKING DOUBLE ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS ON 160+mph fbody
Hey guys, I have a 4th gen camaro 3,250lbs with me in it. lsnext 387 inch, 88mm FI turbo, powerglide, 3.42 rear gear. Viking DA warrior shocks.
Have you guys had much success over 160 trap speeds with them?
I have seemed to be successful under that but since turned the car up and I cant launch, stay planted half track or even on the big end of the track the car wants to dance around.
Completely understand if I need to go up to a crusader or afco. Im just wondering if anyone has successfully gone fast. Say the 7's with a similar setup to mine.
I cut between 1.28(with a th400) and consistent 1.33's with it around 9-950hp on a not so well prepped track and no serious suspension tuning.
Ive based around their factory settings and made 10 passes last night completely unsuccessful trapping 165 and pedalling the car 3-5 times between the start and finish line.

I have several in that range with Vikings, no issues to report so far. I do normally recommend a Crusader series shock at that power level, but it is dependent on the rear geometry and how the car is leaving

I had pinion angle around -1.5 because I have all solid rear without poly. Ive been told I should try -3.

Changing your pinion angle won't change how the car launches. That is all in the hands of lower control arm angle and torque arm mounting position, which is then controlled by the shocks. That thing is making some steam. Get that short time down and it will be moving out hard. You should realistically be in the 1.2x 60' range
Where are your LCA's and torque arm mounted? That will tell us a lot about what needs to be adjusted to correct the car

Last Year (2016) At that power level and th400 weighing in at 3,380 the car always did 1.28-1.33 really consistant and more of a street then strip car.
I changed a lot of things this year but not the shocks or the tq arm. I have the bmr extreme arm, viking da coilovers on all 4 corners, a quick performance 9", an fti level 5 glide, dart lsnext 387ci, borg 88/100mm, and the car is now 3,250 with me.

Two weeks ago I had the car on 13.5 psi of boost and went 1.33/5.70@121/8.89@152
Didnt seem to work or even try to 60 with it since the plan was to make more power soon.
Now that I did turn it up it is intense.
Ive only ever launched the car on 7-8 psi.
It is my first fast tq arm car so I have a lot of work ahead to get it resolved.
The car was on 19.5-22 psi this past weekend and I couldnt do anything with it. Way above my skill set lol
Ive since spent more time tinkering in the tune and ramping boost in but I know that I am making a mistake in the suspension somewhere.
Lower contol arms are in the bottom hole.
here is a log of one of the passes this weekend. I legitimately pedalled the car the entire track. I was at wot for 1 full second. Went 8.9@165

My best 60 ever was a 1.28 on a mt pro bracket 28 when I was still living down south. Setting then was 6 comp and 14 rebound.
I am currently on a slick and have been most of this year. Shock settings remained and cut 1.31-1.33 since.
I called Viking today and they told me that they have yet to revise their sheet and the specs and start settings are a little more old school and advised me to start at 12 comp and 6 rebound next time out and go from there. Which is basically the opposite of what Ive been running.
I will have to go and measure control arm angle.

Ok I just checked with an angle finder. Without me in the car(since I have no help) My rear lower control are is -1 degrees down hill from the car to the rear end on the passenger side. It is -1.5 downhill on the drivers side. The car is pretty low. So I guess maybe I should raise it up a hair?
Should I get to -2 and start there?

Here is how the tq arm is mounted at the swivel point. When I welded it in last year It was near straight up and down with the old rear end.
It was an old hacked together ford 9 with a hughes tq arm adapter.
I have some adjustement in the heims on this quick performance if that is not correct or ideal.

What would the benefit be over the bmr? Other then this thing weighs 40+lbs it is a pretty beefy arm with a good amount of adjustment.
