"Should have a can worth a clearance on lowered cars"
I read that most consider a soda/pop can worth of clearance under the exhaust as being the minimum you should drop you ride height but I don't see how people are clearing their exhaust with a pop can on lowered setups.
I have a UMI/Prothane motor mounts and speed engineering headers. My vikings are currently set up to be 26.5" in the front and rear. I can't even fit a pop can under the fender tab, let alone under the long tube collectors. Gap between tire and fender is 2.5". Should I raise the car up another 0.5" or leave as is? Stock ride height can vary from car to car but some have reported 28" rear and 27-3/4" front.
I hear 26.5" in front with Strano/koni setups and similar height for BMR springs with Bilstiens. Is anyone that is running these setups (or any aftermarket non stock ride height setup for that matter) able to fit a can under their fender tab or collectors? Stock K and mounts or no? This whole can worth of clearance on lowered setups sounds like a pipe dream.

Can you share more details about your setup like what K-member, what Y pipe, what LT's, etc? I'm not sure if the UMI K-member setup with prothane mounts lowered the engine position from stock height or not.

All my mods are in my signature. Im guessing just by looking at it that i couldn't fit a pop can under my collectors. No clue about the fender tab. The biggest concern is your lowest point, whatever that may be. Do you know where yours is and how much clearance?

The plan is to go with a custom fab Y for the best possible clearance and make it work with a MWC catback cross-member, and raise the car 0.5".
Which pacesetter Y do you have?
82-1160 or 82-1163

Ok gotcha. My Pacestter ORY was on the car when I bought it. Maybe they've redesigned it recent years but I have no idea. I know its 3" diameter and the lowest point is where the pipe snakes out on the driver side. It's not one of the better ones for clearance that's for sure. You could run spacers or whatnot to get that 1/2" bump or run a bigger sidewall tire, but a better y-pipe would be ideal if you can swing that

unless I am missing something, you need a tire with a bigger sidewall. that is way too much wheel gap for being that low. I have Vikings as well and my front fender height is around 26" and I have no wheel gap, tire is tucked up in the fender (295/35r18 F&R). I have pacesetter longtubes and ORY and the drivers side of the y-pipe is the lowest point on my car, scrapes every so often depending on the road. for me I don't really care because it is pacesetter stuff, if I hade a nice stainless setup it would be different

I probably have an average height, lowered car. I can fit an aluminum soft drink can under my exhaust with a quarter inch to spare.
All I had to do was lay the can on it's side!

Are we talking a soda can standing up or on its side? I'm thinking of getting the bmr springs and I'll be lucky to fit a soda can on its side under the lowest part of my exhaust which is my magnaflow bullet muffler. I'll probably be able to fit a crushed can under there

Here's ARH headers at stock ride height.

3" seems to be right around the best that can be had with the common lowering combinations and an exhaust that tucks up nicely.
