Restore spark to your LT1/LT4 motor with this BRAND NEW Distributor from AIP Electronics
This Distributor EXCEEDS OEM specification and comes 100% complete with everything needed including a new Optispark wiring harness.
(Note: Harness may not fit all applications and you may have to use your original harness.) Our AIP LT1 Optical Encoder is temp rated at 330°

As long as this thing holds up like a stock or Delphi I'm all for it. For now I still have my 23 year old factory stock one as a backup. I cringe at the day I have to rely on a disaster Chinese piece of crap knockoff.

Hi,
Wow! That's great that you got 23 yrs on your factory opti.
We have had a good success rate with AIP Opti's, thats why we sell them. And they have a decent warranty (2 yrs). We don't want to sell anything that would give us a bad name.
We are told that the upgrades that the new AIP vented units have are to improve reliability even more.

This is what they updated.
Revised Upper and Lower Rubber Gaskets with increased sealing surface
-Thread Lock Compound pre-applied to rotor and sensor mounting screws
-Coated EMI Shield
-Revised Laser Cut Shutter Disc for improved timing accuracy
-Revised Mitsubishi-Spec optical sensor
-Precision Japanese Ball Bearing

Thank you,
Christian

I'm just curious you have stated that this is a revised Mitsubishi spec optical sensor. Is it a true Mitsubishi sensor or aftermarket? If so where is it made?

It was my understanding years ago that the problem with most of the aftermarket units was the high failure rate of the aftermarket optical sensors. It's why I went to a 24x system. Had the aftermarket been as good as the OEM I would have stuck with the opti. That said my opti was still working when I removed it. I just figured it was easier to install the 24x system while the engine was out. So my opti was 24 years old and had 160k on it.

Oh no.. it was taken out of service after about 90K. Replaced it with a new unit some years ago just because, but still have it just in case.

Hi,
The sensor is not a Mitsubishi sensor. It is more like a replica/copy made to the Mitsubishi specs. AIP says it is made over seas.

Thanks
Christian

Hi Rob,
There's a good chance of that or Taiwan, not sure. They say it has Japan bearings.

Thanks

Hi shbox,
Not sure how long ago that was, must have been before we started selling them, and we have been selling them for several years. We have had good reliability with them, that is why we sell them and have been able to get an extended 2 year warranty on them through AIP.
We sell a lot of them and of course there have been failures just as there are with all Optisparks, even the MSD Optis. If its the same company you speak of, they must have made major changes, because they good service now or we would not deal with them or any
company that might make us look bad.
Merry Christmas!
Christian
