Just got my C5 the other day. So I was out this evening going to get some some stuff at Autozone and I ran across this loud Mustang GT... The newer models, 99-04 or whatever. I have ran one before with my old FD and not too surprising. But anyway, I was just going to go past him, but he saw me pass and decided to catch up. He got beside me and goosed it a bit, and I kind of laughed because it didn't look to be much. Anyway, I said screw it and got back beside him. Went from about 50 mph, and he starting honking. I waited till I heard him hit it and I passed him fairily easily. Let off at about 110, and he was pretty far back.

He ended up following me to Autozone. He got out and asked me what was done. I told him nothing and he looked surprised. Anyway, he then asked me if I wanted to run one of his friends tommorrow night. I asked what it was and he said it was a Fox-body with a 347... I said sure, and he laughed. He had a buddy in his car who had got out and been listening. That guy said "You're over your head on this one buddy. This thing is going to whip your ***! It runs 11.80's!"

I smiled and asked when he wanted to meet tomorrow night. He gave me some details and I was just laughing to myself, thinking about how he wasn't getting the C5. He would be seeing the RX-7 roll in. I'm just wondering what he is going to think when he sees that come in... They also tried to tell me we would go for some money if I wanted to. Haha, I can't wait to see the look on this guys face. I'll try to get some video.

 

Thats awsome. What does your RX-7 run? You one of the guys with the LS1 swap? I can't remember. Either way those cars are fast. I'd always hope some import guy would try racing my Intergra and beat me so we can meet again later with my T/A. That would be choice. Be sure to post up the kill.

 

I don't respond much to the forum, but i read constantly, because you guys are great. With that said, that is classic street racing. i love it. You should have gotten his phone number and made a real sucker bet, because i am willing to bet the mustang will not hook on the street. Good luck and i take it your Rx-7 is a monster.

I don't really know yet... Never ran it at the track because all the tracks near me suck, and I haven't had the time to take it somewhere. I would guess it would be capable of low 11's on motor, but that all depends on how well of a tire combo I run. Right now on street tires I spin to about 60... So that doesn't help. I have a nitrous setup, but it is pretty much useless since I can't get traction without it. I could run it like a Supra... "70 roll?"

I really hope he doesn't try to get me to do a dead stop. I just don't have the tire for that...

 

I will definetly get a buddy to film for me. But I don't know about the money thing. I have never been much of money kind of guy. You never know what people will do when a lot of money is on the line. Not like the old days. Especially someone I don't know.

Thanks. It def. looks better in those pics than in real life. The body of it is a little dented, paint sucks, rubber is rotting, etc. It'll be getting fixed up though.

 

Well I showed up last night at a little after 11 to meet him. The guys were there in the GT along with some others were sitting there. Luckily, one of my friends was smart and told me the guy wasn't coming before-hand. He had went down there before me so he could see what was going on. That way I wouldn't show up in the RX-7 yet. So I drove the C5 up there and talked to the guys. They said their guy had to work a later shift and would be here at 1. I told them I had to be up early and couldn't but to call me this weekend. So no vid yet damnit. But I will get one this weekend.

 

Hmmm... You showed up and he didn't.. I'd ask for my money.

 

Sharp looking car. I hope the planned race has some closure, unlike many others on the board.


Off-topic, I've glanced at your signature on occasion over the past few months, how come you got rid of the (sold) Camaro, and the (funny) smartass comment about the RX-7, and now don't have anything at all? The mention of the Z28 would lend some legitimacy to your side of the arguments you often get in here about imports.

Oh, any pics of your vette? I saw in another thread it was your new daily driver, but are you going to mod it at all? At least some sharp looking wheels, or headers, et cetera?

 

I just got tired of having to defend myself because of the sig... No pics of the Vette yet. I'm hoping to maybe do a couple bolt-ons, mostly to give it some sound.

Frankly I think that the stock C5 will be enough. Everyone and their left nut has a buddy with a 11 second Mustang. Im guessing it's a half done 347 that runs more like 12.80s.

Just make it a long race to counter his gearing and slight weight advantage and I bet your OK.

I could be wrong...meh just use the 7.
