Default thunder racing CheaTR cam installed

Well the cam is in and here is how she goes.

1. There is definetly more power throughout the entire power band..from a dig, almost a bog, the power snaps back to life quick and revs fast pulling you back into the seat much more then before. And much better then my two previous cams. Power is down low as much as it is up high. Power gain, CHECK

2. Stealth, The cam is choppy with long tubes, off road ypipe and magnaflow. After idling for more then 5 seconds, the cam finds a slight lope..more of a chop then a lope, its quick, not like a 112 or a 114 cam..its faster, but no doubt there is a cam in the car. Ill put the cats on it tomorrow and see what kind of difference that makes. Stealth,

3. Drivability, No difference what so ever...drives exactly the same, just pulls harder! I noticed an increase in the "gas" smell but there is no noticeable sewing machine noise like with the TR224 112 i had before in my old car. No bucking, no surging and i have not tuned her yet. Daily driver, CHECK

4. Over all impressions, it doesnt seem that the power band changed at all, there is just more power everywhere. My TR 224 didnt drive as nice as this cam and had a slightly slower and more pronounced lope. With a cut out, this thing would sound pretty mean. Stealth is out the door with the ORP and LT's, its not noticeable though unless you know what a cam is. Drivablity is awesome, unchanged from stock. It doesnt have the OMG turbo feeling at 4k that my Equalizer cam had but its smooth and pulls nicely, and i didnt sacrafice any low end at all. Ill race you from 6th gear!

Did you use the 918's with this cam? If so, did you use the stock retainers? Also, do you think it will be ok for 20k or so miles on the 918's?

have only put a few miles on it so far, im about on E though so ill fill up, and let you know

Yes, i used 918 springs with titanium retainers. I doubt it will make it 3K miles with me because i drive about 1K miles a month and something tells me heads with dual springs willl be on her by summers end. As far as spring life, id probably change them at 10K if not. I dont drive much, but i drive kind of hard.

My specs were 214.9/ 231.9 .599/.577 116.9 LSA

Im off to drive it more now, have to go to work, ill let you guys know more after this coiming weekend when i can really get on her.

Scoobie.

Please dont take this offensive, just asking some questions as to my idea of the cheater cam.
First I thought this cam was more for the cars running stock or close to stock exhaust.
It was intended to sound like a stock cam through the stock exhaust but pull much harder. With this being said why did you choose the cheater cam with LT's and full aftermarket exhaust? I believe a different grind with a closer split would have gained you more power, been just as driveable and if ground on that 117LSA would still be very similar as far as stealthly.
I believe with your current mods maybe a 224/228 581/588 116/117LSA would have been a better choice for overall power and would have still given very good street manners and ideal quality.
Please explain if you dont mind, and correct my theorys if they are wrong.
Thanks

I believe your theory is correct. I ordered this Camshaft before i ordered the headers. I bought dynatech headers specifically to be able to swap on/off the high flow cat converters. Also, i just recently sold the Car in my sig and was running a Big Equalizer cam. I wanted something stealthy because this car is a Limited Edition 35th anniversary car. Ive only got 11K miles on it, i hardly drive it and didnt want to give up any comfort or drivability. I know i could have gotten more power, but to really sum it up. I wanted to do a stealth cam, with all the bolt ons. Keep the exhaust as quiet as possible with no surging or bucking. This isnt a max effort drag car like my 1LE was. I just wanted something fun for the street. Ill be doing heads as soon as i get some new tires and a strong clutch. Lastly, my wife drives the car and she hated the big EQ cam and hardly ever drove it when i had the TR 224 cam. Thanks for your questions. Ill put her on the dyno soon and we'll see how she does.

Cool, Thanks for the reply.
Makes more since now.
I have a 220/224 on a 117 in a locals car even though I wont ever admit that again.
HAHAHAH
You cant tell its there. He has LT's and exhaust and is using Z06 springs.
Cam is great with his 3500 stall as the combo really works well.
Anyways thanks again for the reply, and good luck with your dyno results.

Holy thread from the dead. 2005?

FWIW, most people gain 35-40 rwhp with stock manifolds and 40-45 with headers...all with excellent drivability!

LS6 cam would be a waste of time to install as gains would be minimal. I would assume the CheaTR cam with LT and related bolt ons would dyno around 375 ish RWHP. I have a Stealth II and got challanged to more than a few races because others though the car was stock with exhaust.
